Which is the world's best arpeggiator/step sequencer? (And why?)

Well, it does not have to be the best in the world. ;)

But I would really like to know which arps/step sequencers you use and why you like them :)

It's the one that is part of Adam Szabo's new synth Viper, that is to be released very soon:

Why? Because I programmed it (the arp, not the whole synth) :bleh:

For straight up arpeggiation Kirnu Cream 'coz it's simple but capable.

I've been using step-sequencers more than arps recently like Sugar Bytes Thesys/ERA and Consequence. You can achieve the same types of patterns but they allow much more subtle control of parameter automation as well as tones.

Then there's the Reaktor stuff. Not really an arp but check out Nod-e. So insanely cool. And Free.

A combinaison of Soul, Brains and Ear should nail all these plug + better Originality

But... if you need one there is a plethora out there to sound like all others
Chtulu, ABleton Arpegiator and any other hardware or soft version...is just like

    not switching on Bach

I like Cthulhu when I need a complex arpeggio pattern
But, mostly I just use the one in Ableton because Its easier and faster to dial in what I want.

It's like a little 8-track Sequencer within your DAW and should be very powerful with Arpeggios as well as Chord Progressions.

BEST is subjective and also depenz on what your DAW supports/has. Which DAW do u have?

My favourite ever arpeggiator [and it could do much, much more] came bundled with Cubase when I was using it on the Atari 1040ST.

It was called Phrase Synth and myself and a colleague miss using it to this day. We both audibly sighed when we messed around with an Atari emulator on a PC last year and managed to fire it up within Cubase.

I've never found another piece of software that was as powerful or that allowed you to do really complex things musically, not just monophonically but polyphonically and by setting up really complex scales and progressions for it to follow.

As it was run on an Atari with 2mb of RAM, it can't have taken up much processing power or memory to run and I dearly wish there was a VST version or something similar to this day. Cthulhu is similar in some ways, but even that isn't nearly as powerful.

    I almost forgot hypercyclic. Free.
mucoder also develops tonespace a pretty nifty (and educational) chord generator. Also free.

So basically Cthulhu's main functions split into two separate plugins.

Try routing MIDI out from hypercyclic through to tonespace (TRIGGER: MIDI triggers note | MIDI In: MIDI track) and then out again to your favorite VSTi; some gorgeous Kontakt library like Una Corda; a heavily processed/bit-reduced Battery kit; or maybe that SoundBits Just Gore sample pack I saw on the other site.

You can even modulate the number of steps in a sequence and amount/type of groove with one of it's two LFOs.
And you can assign parameters to your mouse wheel.
