That is one of the main interesting point. He is in fact an atheist especially in a Biblical way many thinks about theism.

Read his books! His lectures are just barely touching the surface.

Wow. Lots of controversy about Elon Musk. IMO the guy is an inspiration. Listen to him talk about ambition, success, dedication, etc.

I will out-cynical all of you put together, and I like Elon Musk.

I also highly advise reading from Niels Bohr as well.

    proselytizing?

have you read all of Elon's books? How many does he have out there? Does self promotion and pipe dream pandering
at the expense of those whom you would never allow on your space ship get you to #1 on the NYT review ?

I'll watch blabbermouth Krauss's vids.. but I only read Dirac and Ed Whitten

    Niels? he's too Bohring.. :drummer:

You are clearly can’t even read properly. Care to point out where have I ever mentioned in this forum under this topic anything about a specific book?

Anyways, time is up. See you guys next time, as I have already stated that I am not here to educate nor I have to inform you any of you about anything actually, but I have already spent too much time with you idiots, thus I am off for now before I get infected as well. :)

So you say he talks about that in his books, but if i ask you in wich specific one you are not able to answer and you have to suddenly go....

Wow. The last time I visited this thread it was about a vision to bring settlers to planet Mars.

Now it is about evil US, envious Russia, Atheists and personal attacks. What I see from the posts that do deal with the original topic is that it's either good or bad, nothing in between.

Strange enough that failures are counted bad, although everyone should know that failing is totally normal in the process of creating.
But also strange that a vision per se is counted good, although any realisation first will make it good.

Let me remind you that the european Ariane 5, which has a good reputation, on her first 14 flights failed 2 times and was only partly successful another 2 times.
SpaceX detected the cause of the failure, and removed it. Since then, all landings were successful.
For the distance to the Mars a new engine is needed. The prototype of that engine just made its first test. It is an engine with values that before only hydrogen engines were able to reach. But methane (used for the new engine) is much more cheaper, and it can be produced on the Mars (that's a well known fact for some decades now). For me the next milestone will be a successful start with the new engine. With that I don't mean earth to orbit, I mean an actual test flight to Mars.

I wonder why a private company is paid with US taxes. I highly doubt that. On the other hand, I have no degree in finances. If anyone here has, please elaborate on that topic. But please, only those that are actually working in the finance sectors. There are already too many rumors in this thread.

Last, but not least, someone said if any could achieve that, then probably the Germans. Well, I am German, and I can say that our German scientists say that
    1) Nothing Musk said is new. All the physics are known facts.
    2) Musk stays within the possibilities of todays technology.
    3) His time plan is way to fast. They don't doubt that he'll deliver, but they are sure it will take a lot more years than Musk thinks.
    4) They think of Musk as trustworthy. This is because in the past 14 years, since SpaceX founded, all he promised was realized - but with a long delay (which the scientists expected).

I don't know about other countries, would be interesting to hear what their scientists think.

Of course they are. And when Columbus came with the visionary idea of sailing westward to find a way to India, people were not only saying pretty much the same negative things we can read in this thread as well, the project also was so expensive that only a kingdom could invest in his idea. That wasn't an easy thing to do, but Columbus got the money and ... the rest is history.

What I mean is, let's bring it into relation. Say, the development until a very first ship can fly to Mars will cost $ 1 trillion. Unimaginable? Airbus currently has 12800 A320 orders. One A320 is $ 100 million, so this is a sum of $ 1.28 trillion. And that's just Airbus. What about Boing, Learjet, etc.? Suddenly the numbers become a very down-to-earth relation, I'd say. How long might it take to make the ship fly to Mars. I'd guess at least 10 years. So that makes 128 billion per year. Again a number that is reasonable.

US national debt is $ 20 trillion. I guess numbers are a case of perspective.

I'll say again.. Mr. Visionary Capitalist Musky.. pay for it yourself... I'll even stand up and clap for him

for now, that 20+ trillion you mention is a MUCH more pressing issue, among many others!
in fact it is a drop in the bucket... the unfunded liabilities exceed $100 trillion

You're a German @tulamide do you deny your largest banking institutions are a few breaths away from total exhale?

Mars's gravity is irrelevant? - Huh??? - And you claim you have studied physics? Hahahahahahaha….
And who said that sending a communication satellite or its building supplies from Earth to Mars or better, who said that sending an already assembled and working communication satellite even onto a geostationary orbit around Mars is not possible?
Meteorological forecasting? Crucial, given Mars climate? Huh??? - What is it about Mars’s climate that would be so immensely crucial? Let me hear your utter and apparent stupidity on this, shall we? :)
About water. Yes, water is heavy, but do you even know that e.g. on the ISS they recycle more than 93% of water and I am talking about resulted clear drinking water? As an addition there is confirmed flowing water on Mars!
And just to further exemplify your shortsightedness, who said that there will be no adequate amount of supplies will be sent to Mars before that actual manned Mars mission?
It is now demonstrated that you can’t really think outside of your boxed in head, can you? :) Although why am I not surprised. You are evidently pretty far from being a true innovator as most revolutionary innovators are at the least capable of "thinking outside of the box".

It is even more curious and in fact very interesting that this is the second time you have proved your retarded reading capability. Do not be surprised if I will simply just ignore you from now on in this forum as I am not going to waste my time on retards like you. I have never stated that Krauss specifically talks about it in his books, although he debated on it with other scientists many times. The only thing I have expressed here is my advice to read his works only to comprehend them so you can have a chance to at least grasp the scientific theory basis with your obviously subpar level IQ of water tank you carry on your neck.

Ahhhh… I am not even going to make the effort anymore to even hint you on this. It is your shortcomings not mine, however as of my last advice to you on this, you have to dig and dig deep and there are countless resources for it.

Yet you claim Krauss talks about your topic but you won't tell anyone where... instead of wasting time insulting, just tell me where i can find that topic from him :)

Sending a satellite from the Earth has nothing to do with Mars gravity, so yes it's irrelevant, unless you think a colony with limited resources can build a satellite when on Earth with all the resources it takes months..

What's crucial about Mars climate? Dust storms maybe? you know solar power doesnt work well with all the dust, beside 80km/h winds carrying dust are pretty dangerous.

You before calling everyone dumb, take a moment to read at least about Mars, given this all your judgements are kinda irrelevant, sorry mate :)

Again you talk shit! I have never connected Mars’s gravity to sending a satellite from Earth around Mars, although even in this case Mars’s gravity still matters a lot.

Dangerous dust storms on Mars? Haaaahahahahahahahaha…. Where did you get this? From the movie titled "The Martian”? :)
Let me enlighten you a little. There are global Mars wind storms about every 6 Earth years or so, however the atmosphere on Mars is so thin that even a wind speed of 100km/h would be a non issues. Hahahahah…

"It is unlikely that even these dust storms could strand an astronaut on Mars, however. Even the wind in the largest dust storms likely could not tip or rip apart major mechanical equipment. The winds in the strongest Martian storms top out at about 60 miles per hour, less than half the speed of some hurricane-force winds on Earth.
Focusing on wind speed may be a little misleading, as well. The atmosphere on Mars is about 1 percent as dense as Earth’s atmosphere. That means to fly a kite on Mars, the wind would need to blow much faster than on Earth to get the kite in the air.”

Can you comprehend this? There are no dangerous dust storms on Mars, not even close! About the settling dust every 6 Earth years on Mars that would otherwise cover solar panels can easily be averted with electrostatic dust screens. Than again, even that would be an overkill given that you would only need it every 6 Earth years or so.

Satellite building on Mars? Elon is very keen on modular concepts as you can see this in basically everything he developed so far, thus why is it so hard to imagine supply flights to Mars with prebuilt modular elements so when the crew arrives the only thing they would need is to assemble those modules?

Anyways, it is done! You are now an official moron, but at least you have learned something here, I hope.
