    Hello All,

As a proud user of Reaper I only recently came across this interview and did some digging into the living legend that is Justin Frankel! :woot:
I knew about Winamp but had no idea re Gnutella.
Thought I'd share with any who hadnt seen it. I really enjoyed learning about his motivations etc.
    What a guy.
    Hope you enjoy

I've been thinking about switching to Reaper for awhile. All this new stuff that keeps getting added to Logic, pretty much none of it interests me. It's getting bloated with features I don't use. I'd way rather support this guy. If only it had post fader plugin insert slots . . . maybe one day it'll get added to Reaper . . . It'll probably never be added to logic. They'll just add a few more dreadlocked drummer babes.

Ive known about the origins of reaper and the developer. Just the business model/unrestricted demo was enough to interest me. I bought a license for it years ago for 60 bucks. This vid just solidifies my beliefs about it. Been a fanboy since version 3. Ableton to sketch and reaper record and mix. That has been my workflow for years now. Once they integrate automatic beat/tempo mapping, its bye bye ableton. Reaper can do it but it still takes a little more work and not so automagical as ableton. I will say this, that the time stretching algos do sound better in reaper, even if theyre suposedly using the same elastik algo/engine.

Winamp was the best media player of it's time. Justin Frankel did the impossible by creating Reaper. No other DAW is faster and has more features than Reaper. People may not agree with me. But you have to try it before commenting negatively about Reaper. By saying try I mean you have to learn it completely (You cant learn it completely :P). You can always say that this DAW does this but Reaper can't. But you never know that Reaper can if you want to. Only drawback is it's steep learning curve. But you have great tutorials on youtube on Kenny Gioia's channel. If you know coding, you can do literally anything.

I couldn't have stated it better than you just did ; Reaper is just awesome, but indeed, you must have the motivation to dig into it
deep, to see all its beauty. Thank you !

I love Reaper, however it lacks direct monitor control which I believe is very important in certain studio configurations.

Agreed and I wouldnt even say its that steep to learn.. Its just features are not always as apparent/accessible as they could be. Kenny Gioia is an absolute life saver in this regard.
For example the beatmatching/timesctretching functionality like Ableton is hardly advertised - I was pleasantly surprised when found it could and infact used the same engine (and often uses the more recent version of Elastique because of rapid updates). Reaper then goes beyond with all the tape stop stuff you can do. There's a ton of interesting stuff like the Subprojects too that would take digging to uncover for a newbie..

You dont learn reaper, it learns you and how you work. The "?" key is your best friend when starting out. With the right skin, sws extensions and reamenus its the BEST and fastest DAW Ive ever seen or used.
