This ION theme is awesome and very polished if you like darker themes
    http://stash.reaper.fm/theme/1827/ION_MK1_2.9_Theme & Extras_[NeverSystems].zip

Ive been using Albert donationware theme for most of year but recently switched to Paulie. I love the syle, and very clear, good contrast and great when you have a busy mix....which is most important!

Both those themes to me look better than any competing DAW and how awesome to be able to completely change look like that depending on mood? In winter I probably go back to dark ;)

Paulie is a great theme. My favourite. It's the only reason I've persisted with my latest 'give it one final chance' extended demo of Reaper.

It's all about setting up Reaper how you want it. Reaper is so powerful. The thing is its not all laid out for someone new to the program, thats the main negative. There's a lot of settings. But you soon realise when trying to do stuff - holy shit it does that too! Finishing a few tracks is the best way to figure it out.
You shouldnt have to "persist" with it though haha! What other DAW are you using?

I know all you say about the program is true. I've dabbled since v1 and appreciate its many plusses.
I started back in the 80s with Pro 12 on the Atari and have, save a minor dalliance with fruityloops which I regret, been happy with a linear workflow so stayed cubase until 5 didn't get x64 hacked and I went down the studio one road. I bought v2, don't like v3, so in order to future proof myself I've taken another look at Reaper.
I have made a template, which helps a lot, but I do miss certain things like double clicking on an instrument track between markers to insert a midi clip. I'll read the manual to see if I'm missing it, among other things, but as my daw needs are rather basic (just for song writing not production) persist I will :bleh: :winker:
I do like the Paulie look, though.

Side issue: Shame some theme makers are charging for their work now. I accept it's time intensive to create a skin, but still, for me, part of the community spirit dies everytime.
At least it's not making money off posting freeware.

Yeah making money off posting freeware is a joke!
I was actually shocked how much money there is in pirate stuff for the guys hosting - Kickasstorrents was making $20million a year in advertising! :woot::dont: When you realise that, it does feel cheeky that the content owners do not get paid. After all people are not there for the beautiful site design (though of course building a community and decent site does contribute) but the content!

Im like you I like linear sequencing - actually started on Fruity Loops for about a year then Logic for 6/7 years then moved away from Mac (and so glad I did) and couldnt get on with Cubase so tried Reason for a few years actually and made music but that is so restrictive then moved to Ableton. Ableton also forces you to work in a certain way but I adapted to this and made music till a friend recommended Reaper and never looked back (after some teething issues like anything!)

BTW For inserting the MIDI clip the action exists in action list so you just need to assign the key command

Re themes yes I see your argument regards charging its great many do it for free but I can understand it and if it motivates some to make great themes then its fine by me. I will say in Albert's defence he gives ALOT of support, fixes and layouts so it literally is like commercial software. I havent seen any of the free themers support the theme and requests etc to his degree.
    Anyway enjoy mate cheers

Good to hear. Yeah I agree that Albert's theme is better than Studio One... and you can never change Studio one apart from the colours

Couldn't find out how to get it to 'double click', but I did manage to put it on my main toolbar, which I now prefer, especially as I get to add an icon for it

The "I Logic" theme is also stellar. I'm not too keen on the mixer, though. That pan knob takes away too much space for the docked mixer (my monitor is only 21"). Would be one of my favourites if it weren't for that. But hey, that's Logic's interface right there.

Albert's Pro X-Tools Gold ED is a stunning theme for us with a monitor on the smaller side.
