I use only the one shot drums samples in a sample pack.
I never use synths. Sometimes FXs.

And for my drums samples, given that samples are often too compressed, I often use the "PureDCompV3" Flux plugin to decompress some samples. Results are very good,I can sculpt the sample and recover ( or a bit ) their dynamic range.

I make my synths everytime with my plugins,I love to tweak them until I get THE sound. And I think it's really the art of composing.
    That's my opinion of course.

Do you use the synths samples a lot,you ??

PS: Trevor gordon,I like your style man !

I respect your opinion, but in my view, using synth shots and mangle them true a effect rack is simply sample-based synthesis.
I heard some guy's are using harmor for that. but still, my vst collection has more then most synths have included.

    maybe something to discover?:)

As long as you don't use "HOT CONSTRUCTION KITS WARM ANALOGUE VINTAGE SOUNDS READY TO OWN" I think it's ok

I go for Thomas Penton and Mutekki Media
Mutekki also makes sample packs for vengeance and has about 20 other packs under his own name :)

I love them all! There are some, though, that I love more for different reasons: of course the classics, Native Instruments and Soniccouture for the quality of sounds and originality of products. Sample Logic for the interfaces (not so nice after Bohemian). Studiolinkedvst for the excellent interfaces, although I'm not into that kind of music -just for fun. From the small companies I love uNearthed Sampling and Atom Hub for their artistic approach to sound, usually with atonal and texture instruments. They make the difference. (They really remind me or the late H. G. Fortune, whose legendary free VSTs are still in use and in some ways better than the commercial ones.)

I think that Sample Magic had released some really great packs this year. Yesterday they released Future Electronica 2 https://www.samplemagic.com/details/1195/future-electronica-2 which I think is better than the first one. It's the same people who did Future Soul. So maybe someone here want to go in half, 3 or maybe 4 ways. With the Blackfriday code that has been extended this week we can get for like $26.

If anyone is interested, send me a message.

You mean sample packs or libraries?

As for sample packs (as in, cymatics, vengeance, etc) I would say the most popular is Vengeance and with cymatic getting closer and closer... I like cymatic stuff (as for sound quality) but I distrust their moral game.

I don't actually use samples, I synthesize as much as I can and what I can't make myself (fm hihats and cymbals) I use the ones in the standard library of ableton (they are really friking good if you get the hand of how to use them), the rest is pure synthesis from my part.

    ---------
As for libraries (a.k.a. Vst's or Kontakt libraries), I am almost sure that the most popular is Native Instruments.

For strings I use AudioBro's LASS (which now is part of the Native-Instruments Symphonic Series... and have to say, they really polished that one up)
Everything orquestral, CineSamples (altho there are a lot in the market and each one is worth the look, it really depends on what palette sound you are looking for)
Guitar and Bass (yeah, I have no audio interface yet): Amplesound... by far (altho, electric guitar is one of the hardest to sample authentically, acoustic guitar and bass are in my opinion the best ones in the market)
Pianos: Whatever I can get... right now I'm in love with Galaxy pianos, that being said, NI are also above exceptional... but again, too many good choices that depends completely on taste
E-Pianos: same as with Pianos... too many good choices: Right now using vintage keyboards from NI
Acoustic Drums: As for me, BFD by far... I think they sound the most natural and unprocessed.... but I find that it's not a so popular oppinion, as people tend to go more for Superior Drummer, and Addictive Drums
V-Synths (keep in mind that I'm talking about vintage synths emulation, not other synths like Serum): I'll go with Arturia, but that's because I don't really know other companies that do the same. I really like them when it comes to sound, not so much when it comes to performance tho

I also have an old freebie from SonnicCouture, a Marimba/MusicBox kinda thingy, that I really love.

Those are only my opinions, tho... The world is too big for me to be right

--edit: I took a minute research and find out the Native Instruments acoustic pianos I was praising are in fact Galaxy Instrument's pianos.... interesting

Going back to the AKAI era:

Spectrasonics mostly for their synth sounds but also for their other samples libraries

Best Service for their "All-Around" libraries, their stuff i use is mostly orchestral but all of their libraries are ABSOLUT GEMS SINCE BEST SERVICE IS THE BEST SAMPLE LIBRARY COMPANY & YOU WILL ALL HOLD THIS OPINION, WHETHER YOU LIKE IT OR NOT.

    Nowadays:

Native Instruments because Kontakt, FM8, Massive...

im far from expert in sample packs that's why i keep wondering the same from time to time, but i guess it all depends on if you are looking for samples to inspire you, samples to remake, samples to use as is, or samples that must hold pristine clean sound quality for an idea you already have.

its quite different things i think..
