just mention it because this is one the other big against it (auto-clips has been solved in the other topic :) ), Reaper can run projects on multiple tabs on the same time in-sync(as background project(s) with totally independent timeline or looping state), and MIDI can be streamed back to the original project per track bases using ReaStream, which means alternative arrangement or song fragments can by tried out without any pain, the original arrangement don't have to be changed(just needs muting some clips/region on it)

even the MIDI editor from the other tab is remain opened

have fun, hello S1 scratchpad :)

ReaStream is part of VST pack of Reaper http://www.reaper.fm/reaplugs/

That's some really dope info about reaper. One of the biggest things that has kept me from leaving S1 for Reaper is the GUI as well as the melodyne integration. I guess it's literally about familiarity but what's the skin that you have, I have noticed it several times and since it says logic on it I always feel a tad confused.

GUI yepp it was my problem too, but the iLogic one is pretty decent (best in win IMO), "iLogic" has been removed from the latesst version of the skin, http://forum.cockos.com/showthread.php?t=163579 it was a general problem

Melodyne also yepp, the best solution in Reaper currently is the Rewire in Waves Tune

I just bought reaper and I am leaving Cubase for it. I just love the fact that it runs so fast and efficient on my pc.

can be used another remote machine on your local network for FX calculations so CPU can't be a problem with Reaper >> http://wiki.cockos.com/wiki/index.php/ReaMote, I'm using a laptop+desktop pc at home combo

Yes, you can use another system running reaper on the same network as a dedicated verb box, or a kontakt box, or both (3 systems?)

I can understand you but dig this please:

    - You can "skin" Reaper anyway you want ; there are hundreds of FREE Reaper skins available and there would surely be one
among them where you can familiar with. You can tweak graphic elements to your liking.

    - Ok, so no direct Melodyne integration in Reaper, but .. you can setup Melodyne as an external editor within Reaper, so
opening an audio item in Melodyne, which is originated in Reaper,is a breeze.
You can modify all you want in Melodyne and then save it easily back to Reaper.

The insane amount of (ever increasing) functionality in Reaper, stability and cpu performance makes it stand it out by far against other DAW's (and yes, i have used them all for long periods of time, i know what i'm talking about: Ableton Live, Logic, etc.).
You can make insane fast workflows for doing things in Reaper which really NO other DAW can compete with.
My statement in music producing is : "More creativity in less time".
That's exactly what Reaper can do for you.

Yes, it took me a few years, learning Reaper in depth, to come to these conclusions.
Yes, you have to be patient and very, very willing to discover the deepness and real inner beauty of Reaper.

A fast majority is scarred by Reaper, they don't understand the program, find it ugly looking, setting it aside after a few days.
Thats not the method, if you wanna fall in love with the greatest DAW ever (imho), you should be extremely willing to take your time with it.
If you do, in the end, you will never ever look back to another DAW.

Ofcourse, you can interpret this as all being subjective, and you're right ; it is !
Just wanted to share my experience with Reaper.
    I don't need a girlfriend/wife ; i have Reaper :0)
That's how i became really in love with it.
    And another thing:
Reaper is updated several times a week, has a very friendly user community from which users are always willing
    to help you.
Even the Reaper developers are on this community, helping you directly with questions/issues you have with Reaper.
Now where do you see that in DAW land ?
    Nowhere !

Yes, i do have S1 v3 (on mac) and threw it away the minute i loaded up a demo song that came with it,
that instantly gave me crackled,"tearing" sound over the whole demo project.
Go figure, i have a macbook 2015 retina with core i7 and 16 gigs of RAM and a very clean maintained OSX system on it.
No S1 for me, no no no.
No other DAW for me also.
    Reaper is The One.

    Sidenote:

I run my own Youtube channel which has several video playlists about Reaper.
    Some show-off stuff, some tutorials.
Hope you like it ! (and please subscribe if you want to learn more nifty things in Reaper :0)

episode two, Playtime, not find any proper routing and workflow video, but it deserve it, basically can be created Live 8 from Reaper ... with its session view

need two tabs, the second is the pseudo "session view" (as background project) with Playtime and clips, and ReaStream instances to able to stream back the MIDIs to the first tab, have fun

respect to the developers and ... Mat Zo

    have fun :)

I've never used Reaper but from I'm always seeing of it by people who actually use it is very impressive to me. I think Reaper is so over looked for one simple reason the fact it's $60. We live in a strange world where "Cheap" price tag makes people think it's "Cheap".

If all DAW's (PT, Logic, Cubase, Studio One, Ableton, Reaper, FL, Sonar etc) were the same price lets say $100 with Lifetime free updates & cross platform it would be real interesting to see what would be the number one most used daw. I mean actually used not over hyped by big name producers/engineers.

I think a lot of people make a big investment into a Daw and will lie to themselves and others because they don't want to feel stupid for putting so much money into something that actually falls short in a few areas compared to cheaper daw options.

the learning curve of Reaper looks like this
    [IMG]
so typically it will be your last DAW (after your tried the others) it needs quite complex knowledge (some programming too) to able to work with it effectively, Reaper is flexible so the best practices of all the other DAWs can be used with it, but u have to know them before (automation patterns from FL, session system from Bitwig, AL etc.) able to integrate them, if u never worked with other DAWs before than the default workflow of Reaper will be super rigid and uncomfortable (practically will be good only for comfortable multi-track audio recording)

and the default plugin set ( http://www.reaper.fm/about.php ) is quite limited so also have to buy some plugin family with it

The good thing I liked, I could run the demo for so long and get used to Reaper. Unlike so many other DAW's that have a time function to stop letting the user use it after the trail period. Really helped me get away from Cubase and up and running with Reaper. I did purchase it once I
got up to speed on it.

Tabs in a DAW. What a simple yet genious idea!
Can you move tracks between tabs?
