Well, I'm counting on this community for listens now I guess-since they've eliminated groups on Soundcloud.

    Enjoy!

I enjoyed it, I like a little more bottom end myself, but that's my preference. Nice work mate.

I'll keep that in mind.....I actually thought it needed a little more high end. I cut a lot of high and brought mostly mid and bass in this one.

Nah like I said it's just my preference, if it's your sound go for it.

Do you have this problem with your friends? Not just about the lyrics but generally the taste.

My wife and I have always known how differently we listen to music. I tend to entirely ignore lyrics, while she tends to entirely ignore music. We are the two opposite ends of the spectrum in this sense, and it appears that my wife’s side is more common. Many of my friends think that I have a peculiar, or plain bad, taste for music. Whenever I say I like this song or that song, they look at me like I am crazy. Then they go on to explain why it is bad, and I realize that they are referring to the lyrics, not to the music.

I think you're right though. I was talking to a friend today and he said the same. Any constructive criticism is welcome. Thanks!

Sorry bro, that was not a sarcasm. I myself deal with that problem every day. Living around people that do not think much about the music itself. :mates:
At least your favorite genres are known and you can explain those people (if exist) by e.g, inviting them to the clubs and letting them dance to your tracks. What about me? I don't know from where I begin.

    Do you also accept this?
Research has shown that people form their musical taste in adolescence and that by early adulthood the taste one has in music is, by and large, complete and will remain the same for the rest of your life with very little change and very little openness to new music.

Well that would explain my taste for all forms of music, since my Pops had everything from jazz, classical, to rock. My favorite record growing up was "Herbie Hancock" which had the song "rocket" which I would bring to show and tell. The scratching in that record is what intrigued me as a child, since it was a totally new thing back then....think that record came out in 83'. My favorite Jazz band is Steely Dan, I have all their albums ...a couple on vinyl, I love golden era hiphop, and I guess it was Prodigy, Daft Punk, and Chemical Brothers that kind of took over for me, that peaked my interest more than any other artists in the 90's...mind you, I listened to alternative rock like Nirvana, Pearl Jam, Soundgarden too....went through a lot of stages of different music.

But I would agree, that the common individual usually sticks with one taste in music and doesn't like to delve outside of that genre.

Yeah, you see, those people don't know music. They are the type to listen to top 40 hits over and over again. Those people DRIVE ME NUTS! They hear something different and then bitch and complain "where is that song I hear every day over and over again?" They base much of their tastes on what the radio and media tell them is "good" or "popular" and also, like you mentioned, they like the lyrics and don't even identify with the composition/production. I remember a friend and I used to call those people "background listeners". Music would have to be "popular" and radio worthy and basically just fill the void.

I have a similar ear as yours, where I look at lyrics more as another instrument and could care less what the individual is saying!

Oh...I'm also a huge fan of Roots Reggae (old school reggae) and Dub! Listen to that at work all day! The only thing I don't like is Pop crap or mainstream radio and country (unless it's Johnny Cash). . I listen to 80's at work a lot to, for some inspiration on ideas and such for my music (although it doesn't have a striking similarity).

Same here! My job requires a lot of driving. Sometimes up to 200 miles in a day. My personally curated pandora reggae station is what keeps me sane with the miami drivers. I LOVE Alborosie and a lot od west coast dub as well.

Have you ever heard of dancehall reggae artist Sugar Minott? Not sure if it's your cup of tea, but he's one of my favorites. I made a tribute mix a while ago since he passed away several years ago.
