Cannot agree with your view more stevitch. Hit the nail on the head. In real life there is always a broad spectrum of views (even within music...). I dont get why there has to be some fucking correlation with conspiracy theorists or anything else for that matter and people who enjoy music/music creation. I just dont see the point in trying to base these types of topics with any tribal attachment just because we enjoy discussing one specific topic doesnt mean we agree on anything else or even should discuss any other topic that has little to no bearing on music, which is what i come to this very forum for.

Serious non music related topics are annoying as shit because everyone likes to act like they know shit. Makes me wanna say to everyone in those threads, 'either stfu and make some music or just chill out with members'. I don't come on here to read up on issues that dissapoint me, I come here to chill with friends and make beats, and I'm all outta beats.

Writing, which is in fact the means by which we are communicating here, is different from speaking. A good writer is not necessarily a good orator nor vice-versa.

Write about whatever floats you boat. Entertain me. Educate me. Inform me. Go right ahead. Bear in mind reader fatigue. Diatribes running into several paragraphs will not be read and absorbed. No matter how enlightened the writer, preaching to the choir is plain old boring to all but the preacher.

    My favourite colour is octarine.

Funny, apart from the win10 topic I don't even see the other topics you mentioned. Seems like my ignorelist is well-groomed.

Ditto. We're lucky not to have Lord Havelock Vetinari as a mod, or else we'd all be... detained. :)

We all come here because we love music, right. I also like mountain biking, but I don't come here to talk about it. I go to a mountain biking forum.
I personally don't want to come here and be bombarded with politics, theories about mass murder, and the rest of the shitstorm that is life. I get plenty of that away from this forum thank you very much. And above all it messes with my zen, man.

I think, first and foremost, that most people are here because they are either music lovers or musicians. The fact that this site has different areas where anyone can create topics other than music, speaks volumes. As a long-time Internet user, I must say that this site ranks among the top at allowing a multiplicity of voices to be heard. That being said, there are some people who think that yelling "fire" in a crowded theater is "free speech". Then, there are those who come into a forum believing that 'free speech' entitles them to insult, bully, berate and basically vent all of their pent-up frustration and rage within their world; while exploiting the tenets of free speech. Dialog is a very good thing, as long as people are "dialoging". It becomes entirely something else when the dialog stops and the name-calling begins. We're all adults here, so grownups should not have to be admonished to show common decency and to give the "respect" to others they so desperately seek for themselves. A very simple and timeless truth.

I've just watched the video of the 1970 Woodstock concert, and it seems that politics was very much a part of that musical generation, in fact it was at the forefront for change.

I don't really understand the thinking behind that. Are you saying that musicians have a special outlook on topics that are not shared by non-musicians?

I don't have a problem with members talking about anything and I can choose to take part or ignore just like every other member but if I had to choose I would rather the forum was kept for music related subjects. That's why most of us are here but it's up to the mods to ultimately decide what is allowed so I am happy to go with the flow.

60s and 70s were political days. People aspired to that, to change society including with music. I like that philosophy and I enjoy the music of those days for that reason. But a lot of people nowadays reject politic and want the music they listen to be entertaining only - it is their right, as much as people on this forum can aspire to only talk about music - it's reflected in the lyrics and the topics that are chosen by artists with big commercial success, they rarely go on political controversial grounds, it could upset the sales and make the consumer run away. It's fair, it's the entertainement industry, they entertain, they are not here to make controversial art, that's not at all Disney's spririt.
But in many genres, artist with less media coverage have many political thoughts included in their music. That's not something you can unplug, politic - like love or many topics - is and will always be part of life, and of music too. There will always be dreamers who want to change the world.
But politic can and should be a subject that we talk about - if we wish to of course - like grown ups and in a civil manner. There is no need to insult each other on any matter.
