If you have already top notch acoustic treatment in your studio, a sub from Adam will do.

i'm searching an appartement where i could install my new studio, i would like to have a good acoustic (walls, ground and ceiling), so yes it would be 80% effective i would say, hope 90%

Control SB-2 bit pricey, and wouldn't that blast your neighbors to kingdom come?

I never was in the market for a sub.. except for a tv set up and I get the purpose there

    What makes a $1000 sub better than a $350 sub.. or a $50 sub.. ?

I know I am ignorant.. it's all just a low pitch "thud" to me... this gives you the "crispest" thud possible?

you would not use it DJ'ing ?

    Hi adrien,

i have krk rokit 6 and 10s krk sub.
The low frequencies of the rokit 6 is filterd by the 10s and the low frequencies are now come out the 10s.
But i can tell you that the volume of the sub is sooooo loud that i have to put the volume of the sub at almost -30db.
My neighbors are killing my if i put it at -25db !
    I have bought the 10s but i think i don't need it.
I think a good set monitor speakers are enough.
What low frequencies give the Adam a7x ?
Is the volume the problem then buy bigger monitor speakers ;-)
And what also can be the problem with a sub is that you get wrong representation of your low frequencies if you studio room have not the right accoustic treatment.
I found it hard to get the right spot in the room for the sub because my room is small.
i was thinking the same as you i want more bass and i buy a sub, but OMG i was wrong.
i doesn't work like a hifi set with a sub speaker.
Maybe buy extra different set monitor speakers... i think i would do that if i had $1000,-
So you can switch to other speakers during the producing.
but this is my opinion !
    success with spending money ;-)

So you want to get the sub before you know the room you'll fit it in?
    That's the wrong order.

My room is pretty large. I have KRK Rokit 10/3's. They just didn't have enough by themselves. I added a JBL 10" down firing sub-this one.- One of the best things I ever did. Wish I had done it sooner. http://www.sweetwater.com/store/detail/LSR310S It let the power amps in the KRK's focus above 80hz, which made the whole system sound much better.

You are right =) but i know a little what i expect, i think i would have a 20m2 room for my studio. The A7x have a 42HZ-50KHZ, the 25-42HZ are missing. If i take a sub maybe it's more logical to have the same brand. It would be the Sub8 :http://www.adam-audio.com/en/pro-audio/products/sub8/technical-data : 28HZ-150HZ. with this sub how many available m2 should i have ?
If i was at the step to choose my monitors, i wouldn't buy again the a7x, the DYNAUDIO BM15A would be better... because they begin at 30HZ, which is really better.
So, maybe the best idea is to invest these 1000$ in the acoustic, rather than a sub :)

    • You already have good monitors, do you need a sub?
    • Will everyone that's playing your hip hop stuff have a sub?
    • Can you even hear that low?
    • Do you want to have increased risk of hearing damage?

Hi Junh you asked very good questions ! i pretend nothing of course because it's a new thing for me.
    - buying a sub for a 15hz range is maybe not the priority..
    - of course the bass HZ are here if people do have the material which can translate it, if not, they simply don't hear it.
    - it's a good question, i know that after 18KH i cannot hear anymore, but less than 50HZ don't know
    - no i certainly don't want to damage my ears

Maybe i will invest it in the acoustic =) thanks for the help

I had problems managing the bottom end when I was using a set of M-Audio 5" monitors. I had a friend who was upgrading his monitors so I got a really good deal on some KRK Rokit 8's along with a KRK 10s for $500. Still had some problems with the low end so I tried tuning the sub's level using some wav files from KRK's site and an SPL app on my phone. Not as ideal as an actual SPL meter, but I figured close enough. It was better, but still had some problems with the low end, though. So I started looking at the room. I was set up in a corner, and the tops were only a few inches off the wall. Lots of members on here were telling me to get out of the corner, so one night when the wife wasn't looking, I decided to move the corner desk 45°centered on the wall which moved the tops about 15" off the wall. Re-tuned the sub, and listened to a few reference tracks and was amazed at the definition and separation of the sound. Now when mixing, I can hear the subtle changes things like reverb and compression do to the tone. And the bottom end is easier to get right as well. With or without the sub. I'm mixing rock, though. I believe if I was mixing EDM or dance/pop, I'd probably want the sub. So long story short is don't discount the room setup. I'm weighing heavily on investing in some Rockwool to build some bass traps next. I put some pillows in the corner which actually helped, so I think actual traps would help significantly. Thanks AudioSex members for all of the input which has gotten me to where I'm at!

If you're studio is in a small room, don't use a sub for mixing.

I mix both with and without the sub. Just use it mainly to check the bottom end.

Hi, if you don't have the room for a sub, you can buy a subpac, I use the S2 (and the M1 before) since 2 years now, and it's really acurate if you want to work on the low frequency. And no matter how loud it is, your neigbors will not hear it (unless your wall are just paper)
