Some sources of inspiration. I found on Youtube.

There's more, but I don't want to clutter the thread to much so push the youtube logo.

I know these questions may seem elementary so please forgive me for them and also again for the processes (kind of reverse engineering). The steps needed, not necessarily the technicalities. Such as https://www.askvideo.com/courses/application/songwriting:bow::

For the people like me that have not had the chance of being in an orchestra and experimenting the instrumental sounds, what are your suggestions for getting more acquainted with them?

The only materials I have are sample pack and DAWs. How to be in a position to create one of the tracks of the station I wrote down in my previous post to this thread?

Dear @The Teknomage stated in the other thread that they're more sound designing and working with DAWs techniques. MIDI orchestration is what I'm looking for or they need the inspirations taken more from the instrumentalism? I don't want to find any excuse for not learning any instrument. To some extent I know the propriety of working with the instruments but my goal for now is making track musics not learning a single instrument.

Are those musics being created by just one person (producer) or need a team with various skills?

This one needs more actual instrument players than this one I think. The second one is more like the drone musics and so slow. It can be better and completely done by DAWists and the record engineers IMO. Am I right?

I would be pleased for any comment.
    Thanks so much!

Just play with various orchestral Kontakt libs and study theory. Works for me since 2011.

    Thanks @Mundano
Yes really good suggestion. I always love honesty. I mean I am not a big fan of classical musics but the alterations that Neo-classicists, Modernists and DAWists are doing on the classicals make my wonder to be increased. I like to be trained and have view like neo-classicists (minimal but phenomenal and modern). I really love those kinds of styles.
Good point but as you know instrumental sounds differ much from the synthy sounds. For using them, kind of orchestral composition is needed imho and I'm not even zero at it.
How do you use them? Are you a classically trained person or started everything from your DAW?

Neo-classicalists are often viewed as primitives in terms of music composition. Some of it could be due to very simplistic approach towards harmony (basically just 3maj + 1min chords). Once a band member told me - noone wants complex music, this kinda relate to our discussion in why good music isn't popular. Rigorous approach to pure "classicalism" can be seen/heard in works by Flint Juventino Beppe. I got both his albums Remote Galaxy and Flute Mystery, and while from a scholar approach, there's very little to be improved in terms of melody/harmony/orchestration, his work doesn't appeal to me at all, it's just not involving and boring, even with all its boutique acoustic effects and exotic articulations.

Maybe consider getting yourself a copy of "Acoustic and Midi Orchestration for the contemporary composer". It's perfect for novices in midi orchestration and gives proper introduction to all orchestra families.
It should be available on our sister site.

Attended piano lessons for approx. 8 years, then I started with DAW and orchestral stuff all on my own (mid-2011).

It would have been fun to be part of this event same as Ambient album.

But, Last time I made any kind of music, that was in February, I think. Life is not allowing. :(

I am active on forum as a reader only now a days. I visit daily but don't contribute.

For cinematic genre, I will admit that I am a noob. Moreover, I don't have those high quality sound libraries.

    I'll skip. :(

Maybe we may want to propose an AUDIOSEXED NOOB ALBUM? I my self don't know if my music will "pass" the filter for cinematic, but i will try it and let the others judge.

An AUDIOSEXED NOOB ALBUM should have following rules? (just proposing):
    • Album dedicated to the Noob (show your best as a noob)
    • Must be noob produced (please don't bother and stress with professional aims)
    • Don't worry about fails (be happy)
    • Must be noob masterized
    • Thread should have all the noob's questions about producing, composing, etc., and guide answers to help the noob achieve the NOOB ALBUM
    • ...to be continued

After watching some tutorials, orchestral compositions seem so much harder than I was thinking. Need much more knowledge about the instruments, compositional techniques, ... and so much time (perhaps the whole life) to master.:bleh:

The story here is much different than the pure electronic productions. Reaching to the realism needs more effort. The tool is the same (usually just a Midi keyboard) and the main materials (instruments' sounds) are a few (yes other sounds would be used) but kind of classicalism in the training and enjoyment is required.

    As novitiate:
    Which samplers and samples?

If you're seriously asking which samplers and samples are required, this is certainly out of your league (for the moment, as with will and desire... anything can be accomplished). To answer your question, you can use a Kontakt sampler which is virtually the only one I use (although the exception are some Best Service libraries that require the Engine sampler... worst ever BTW). I started out writing my orchestral/hybrid stuff using the Garritan libraries (because I had to learn this on a budget!) and those require the Aria sampler engine. That's a great way to start. They do sell sample libraries that cover all the basics required for film scoring and with some massaging you can do a convincing job. However, the music industry is well vested in the sounds required and all the music libraries, music editors and music supervisors were turning down my music until I started to use the "upper-level" music libraries which BTW cost thousands of dollars (i.e; Project SAM [orchestral ensembles], LASS [strings], CineStrings 2, CineSamples [brass, percussion, woodwinds, strings], Orchestral Tools [woodwinds, strings, brass, sphere], Heavyocity (hybrid percussion & synthesis), 8DIO (everything!), Soundiron (everything!) and about 300 more... I've spent close to $100,000 in my studio... and have yet to make it back in advance buy-outs, licensing and back-end royalties. It has to be a passion worth starving for... kinda like a junkie.

    The secret?

Have as many of the libraries I mentioned and mix and blend them together for textures, so they sound amazingly real... you will have study the articulations and how all the orchestral instruments are played and what ranges and combinations they excel in (i.e; flutes and oboes 8vb can double the violins 1 and/or 2 well for more strength... the double bass can play their higher register 8va to double the cellos in the same octave for more power. Violins 2 double the first violins but an octave down for effectiveness and so on...)

Cinematic doesn't limit you to orchestral sounds. If the entire produced media of this endeavor turns out to be pom-pom-pom adagio strings, single note piano triads and brass it will be a failure.

Just evoke emotion, whether it comes from pure synthesis ALA Daft Punk Tron soundtrack or a mixture of synthesis and orchestral elements as with most Zimmer soundtracks it doesn't matter. What you want to evoke is emotion and if you can do that then you will have done well.

Please be aware that we haven't yet fully decided on whether this is going to be the template for this project.
There are other considerations on how this project should be handled. I'll get back to you how things went.
