I'm very particular when it comes to plugins and I take a lot of care in researching something before I make a purchase. It doesn't happen often but every now and again, I buy something and then think to myself "Why the fuck did I do that?"

For me it was the DopeVST bundle. This was around a holiday sale last year and I ended up spending around $300 for basically everything. I had never used their stuff but heard good things about them and figured I'd treat myself to an early xmas gift.

To be fair, their stuff isn't totally unusable. Ive gotten some use out of Bass Engine which isn't bad. But the rest of the plugins like Beat Machine and Crate Digger are basically mediocre sample libraries wrapped in a vst plugin. I haven't used those plugins since I bought them last year :/

 

Sounds weird, but Sylenth. I bought it and used it religiously for 2 months straight, but shortly after Hive was released (i was a bit late getting sylenth) and imo was the same thing but better....still use sylenth sometimes jsut to make up for the purchase, but yea

 

I hear you on that one. Ive tried Sylenth before but I just couldnt get into it. Then Hive came out it was a no brainer. I was half tempted to try Sylenth again when they came out with 64bit support but when I heard not much had changed other some gui improvements, I basically wrote it off.

 

U-he's products are incredible, the only one that I ended up not buying was Presswerk...I demo'd it, and wanted to love it so bad, but my DC8C & MJUC combo can handle pretty much anything these days, and no where near the cost.

 

Some Waves because of better alternatives and their f..k..g upgrade plan (money, money, money...).

 

Yeah, Im a U-he fanboy as well. I did buy Presswork and use it quite a bit. The only ones I didnt take advantage of were ACE and Bazille, just cause I can get almost anything I need from Zebra and DIVA. Definitely looking forward to Zebra3 which I hear is supposed to be released sometime this year.

 

UAD does the same thing. These companies running things like drug dealers... keep those customers coming back lol

 

Not totally "regretting", but I loved the concept and sound of Recabinet 4 guitar suite when it came out. There was plenty of hype of version 5 for over a year, and when it finally came out (named Thermionik 5) there was no longer a suite, but separate plugins (similar to LePou's plugins). To me that is a workflow killer, since switching amps, FX, and impulses in the same screen it's priceless compared to having to load a new plugin everytime you want to switch an amp or preset. Obviously this also negated the standalone option they said it would include eventually. It was 50$, and now they sell the amp packs for the same price which means that I could have chosen different amps instead of being stuck with the ones Recabinet 4 came in initially (all of them hi-gain).

It still sounds awesome, though. I just don't like the new direction they're heading. I pretty much only use Scuffham's S-Gear this days, for convenience. It's standalone, rock solid, and sounds awesome. Thermionik gets used when I want something specific like only playing with "that" exact amp. Shame

Not that I regret it, but I don't use Slate's VMR so much nowadays. It is sitting virtual dust. Of course, I bought it before having my UAD Apollo Twin. I guess I'm happier with UAD plugins and a few others from smaller companies, like U-He Satin or SKnote Disto, my new toy.

 

EVERY SINGLE LAST F@#KING ONE OF THEM.

 

1. Eastwest plugs and libraries - because they were not my cup of tea after all.
2. Synthogy Ivory - because I never use it.
3. Lethal Audio Lethal - because... think about it.
4. Wide blue sound's Orbit - because it was cracked later on.
5. Steven Slate Drums Custom - because it sounds like shit and because platinum is available on another site.

 

Liquid Rhythm - and only because I can't even use the thing now. I had it installed on my mac and pc. Got rid of the pc and my mac's HD went kaput and WaveDNA only allow 2 activations. So I'm SOL. I will never buy a c/r product again from any company other than Native Instruments unless I know they are cool like NI is in regard to number of authorizations.

Sucks because Liquid Rhythm is actually quite good.

 

For some reason I feel like I trust your taste. Maybe I'll try out Disto. The mid-side thing is nice. I bought the SoundToys bundle and as much as I try, I just don't love Decapitator on a lot of sources. It's taken me this long to admit it to myself. Radiator on the other hand is a beauty but better for light saturation than heavy distortions.

At the moment I'm kicking myself for buying IL Gross Beat just because it was on sale, as I have no idea how to use the damn thing. It's been sitting around for a month or two just waiting for me to RTFM. Never had an Image-Line product I didn't need a manual to understand.

 

Omnisphere - every preset is drenched in reverb. Remove the reverb and the sounds are so-so...

 

Waves stuff, granted I've always bought them during sales so they never broke the bank. I actually like Element
Sugar Bytes Cyclop - no idea what i was thinking. Doesn't offer much that other plugs can't do.
Ohmicide - that GUI looks great but it is a nightmare... hence never used

it does have a mod step sequencer and some pretty neat oscillators. The wobble knob's not a bad idea either, if a little tacky. I thought it looked like the coolest thing ever. Downloaded the crack, never used it.

Edit - but I definitely don't regret not buying any Waves stuff.

waves, most synth plugin,

 

Antares WARM, hardly used it .. and with the complete Soundtoys bundle (including Radiator) and the free Revival from Slate I have better tube options now. The only problem, I tried to sell it @ GS but no one seems to be interested. The plug-in isn't expensive when buying new and I have to add that stupid $25 fee for iLok2 (although I want to share it .. but still).

 

Plug & Mix V.I.P. bundle. Cheap cheap cheap !
