I was thinking to give Windows 10 a try on my side machine wich is a laptop running Windows 7 Ice Extreme.
But before upgrade it i have a couple of questions in my mind

1)I heard that Microsoft will check on you, how to remove every shitty things against my privacy? Wich tools make the best job

2)Heard about "forced automatic update" there is a way to stop MS to force update the OS?

3)Heard about "unistalling software" without user's permission. Is it true?

    4) WIch plugins are know to not working on Win10??

    Thanks in advance. Mostwest

To stop automatic update on windows 10 pro

    1. Open the Run command (Win + R), in it type: gpedit.msc and press enter
    2. Navigate to: Computer Configuration -> Administrative Templates -> Windows Components -> Windows Update
    3. Open this and change the Configure Automatic Updates setting to ‘2 – Notify for download and notify for install’
    4. Open the Settings app (Win + I) and navigate to -> Update and Security -> Windows Updates. Click ‘Check for updates’ which applies the new configuration setting
    5. Restart

Never heard such thing as automatic removal of software unless of course you are actually installing a newer version of the removed software.

    1) Yes i'ts true. Tools and hints exist, but it's evident that the OS continuous to spy even you use them (automatic settings, reg edits etc.)- as long its connected to the internet (proven and reported by arstechnica last year). Obviously there are hard coded spying functions you can't eliminate. And there are no guaranties that thees will not increase in future.

    2) Could be possible, but you have to be aware that nothing depends more on continuous updates then Win 10, since its the last major version and Windows is now a SaaS (Software as a Service).

    3) There was already a reported case where Win 10 disabled a specific application without user permission on a bright scale -> just google it.

    4) There is/was incompatible software used by CG artists, especially drivers.... this would need a descent research. There are examples where Win 10 stopped supporting specific software and therefore damaged business models...

    Good to know:

There are credible reports saying MS has with Win 10 first complete access to users hard drives. MS will give such data away, on request by US law enforcement- stated in the MS EULA you have to confirm.

    dailymail:
'The tech giant is also said to save Bing search queries and conversations with Cortana, as well as lists of which websites and apps users visit and the contents of private emails and files, as well as their handwriting.'

    That's currently unclear.

Important is, what you confirmed in the 12000 words EULA. As far as I know, they only say, they will give it away to US Law enforcement on request.

It's also unclear what could force such a request (terrorism, hacking, piracy, porn ?). Who knows.
It seems to be a variable criterion. And that's the real threat.

Clear is, its primary based on the US Patriot Act- So MS has to do so.

Thereby the problem is, that Win 10 established a never have seen data mining infrastructure for personal data.

PS: Some people say MS and others are already continuously linked to. Which would make sense from the view of administration.
Until now I saw no evidence. But If I would have to make a research about this, I would begin with Edward Snowden.

It is actually very clear that MS will give access to any data requested by law. Any data they have... It was already true with any OS. So the idea here is to prevent your computer from leaking ANY info, hence spybot anti-beacon, a little gem i highly recommend

Do a little research and you will see it's a novelty that they mention it explicitly. They do this because of the Patriot Act.

But that's not the point. The point is, the OS and its external infrastructure per se.
New is, they can do it remotely with all your data and without to inform you.

Win 10 is ready to smoke your Spybot and anti-beacon for specific purposes- or on request/on demand.

But in future do we will have any choice on average? I think we will be foced so or so, aren't we? Sadly people that are concerned by this is in minority. Hardware and software will be produced in a way, they will work best or at all with latest OS. I think now is time we should all prey for good "windows like" linux distribution. It is our only hope and something that has actual potential to hapen i think. Vulcan can be very good step, really hope realisation will be as good as spec on paper. With vulcan, we hope games is coming. Wide selection of games are best for popularity and with that i hope eventually we will finally see some well and easy enough linux audio platforms. If this hapen, i hope Microsoft will be forced to stop fucking with our privacy.

    Op, sorry for OT.

Most users on AudioSex say: 'Stay away from it as long as you can'. Win 7 LTS goes to 2020, if I remember it correctly :winker:.

Strangely, as it is supposed to be the last windows ever, win 10 Mainstream Support End Date is 10/13/2020 and Extended Support End Date is 10/14/2025. You never read about that anywhere though.

I have found Win 10 to be quite fast and stable as well as a much better interface than the 8.1 that it replaced on my studio machine. Did the free upgrade 6 months ago, allowed it to activate and take all the current updates, then I promptly yanked the ethernet cable and haven't plugged it in since. If your machine is not on the internet Micro$oft can not spy on you or force any updates down your throat.

With a machine offline your warez apps can't phone home and you can remove all those processor heavy antivirus programs that slow down your system.
