For crying out loud, you're not trying to do the SRV double stop bend. Just push buttons and turn knobs till it sounds good to you. You may think you'll get a more helpful answer than this, but you won't.

808s Trap Music bass normally have some gliding by portamento and/or legato, if that what you mean.

what they are doing is adding a extra 808 on top of an 808 then reversing the 808 thats been added. for instance if a 808 is on the c5 key the other is placed between c6 to g6 depending on how you want it to sound. in fl studio its Alt + Y to flip/reverse the sound. also i forgot to mention the extra 808 is placed near the middle or close to end of the original 808

    nah, I think it's the bass slides/bends.

Using fl studio by accident? load a 808 sample en try slide notes,

Main thing is to have your bass complement everything else, if it sounds good loud keep it, if not, start again. Play it safe if you're producing in a small untreated room, eg: cutting 22hz below, dipping the excess boom etc etc.

I stumbled across some info on the track B.M.F by Rick Ross, the mastering engineer replaced most of the samples because it just didn't sound good when turned up, that didn't stop Ross from choosing the beat from Lex Luger though because the track sounded good to them before final mix.

Listen to how this 808 almost has no 'bass', but in a car/club/party it sounds so damn good, must be the kick? :boombox:

Check his work, and A/B his mixes: http://www.patchwerk.com/engineers/mastering/engineer-kenny-mixx

Also make sure you are using ADSR on your kick and 808 to allow the kick transient to play first and the 808 to fade in. (Only if the 808 has a definite kick that you don't like.

Just some random thoughts, take what you need

    I'll take everything! :bleh:
just wanted to add that to not hesitate at all to push the low-cut even higher then 22hz where it fits,
the more low you can cut the more energy you have left for the rest of the spectrum

also, a plugin as RBass from waves can help a lot too

I know 0 $$ about trap but look at the Sonic Academy's KICK 2. 1st you have "trap presets" and from there you can use the glide (portamento) feature which was a "..REQ from trap producers". Hope it can be helpful in the process

Timing. 1/32, 1/16t (especially the triplet). Play on and off those grids and you'll come up with something unique.

What the last poster said about the timing grid. Especially for drum fills at the end of 4 8 16 or 32 bars nothing sounds quite like a triplet thing. Also instinctively developing the ear for when to leave something without any hi hats and when to introduce certain variations of 8th/16th notes of hi hats. When you don't have some kind of hi hat pattern playing especially layering your main kick drum with a ride or crash. Lastly, and probably most importantly is tuned drums, tuned 808s as basslines and tuned snares for drum rolls. Try something like playing the first 4 notes in a 16th note grid at E then the next 4 at D#, next 4# at C and then finally bringing the last 4 to C. Trap music isn't especially complicated but it's just a matter of being able to follow a fairly limited palette and make it banging.

One thing to remember is to have variation in your kits. Nothing is more boring then hearing the same kit playing the same thing over and over again. If you want to keep the listener engaged be sure to layer claps and snares at different parts. Try having multiple different kicks Perhaps one or two main ones and another few that just add a little something extra. Sometimes I really like it when people switch up the hi-hat patterns every four bars or so kind of like a real drummer does.

I hope that helps good luck =)

    Lastly for some inspiration,

I know it's more of a dubstep track but it was around before most of the dubstep producers started jumping on the trap bandwagon. Yet it would still sound fresh as hell and work if thrown in on in a trap set. I always found that 16bits variations were always incredibly inspiring and kind of ahead of the time.

Define "trap" because dubstep and EDM producers have hijacked the genre and turned it into a bunch of Rave music.
