Damn it, I'm doing some pianoish stuff through a vst and I need to use the Sustain Pedal and Soft Pedal of the piano.

So I go into the envelope box of my midi clip and select the sustain midi CC and start inputting my envelope for the Sustain Pedal. Problem is, the fucking sustain and soft wont start and stop the times I want it to... really frustrating, especially if I want some notes to play on the soft pedal and some notes hard, it wont adjust the way I want it to.

I try giving the MIDI CC for soft and sustain a 0 value for the time I want it to but it still wont work properly.

I actually don't know whether the problem is the way Live handles this or the way Addictive Keys handles this. If you guys know of a better alternative that won't fuck me up please let me know.

I have seen a thread on the ableton forums about this and it seems to be a long lasting problem in live. Still haven't seen a solution for dis though.

Does anyone know how to fix dis glitch so I can fake my way as a pianoist on the computer? pls don't make me spend 17 grand on a piano and the right recording equipment just so I can make a shitty piano track >: (

This occurs with clip modulations of all sorts. I reported this to Ableton regarding pitch bend once. They basically said they're aware of it (and don't know when it will be fixed even though it's simple as fuck and has been recognized for a long time). The problem seems to be that if you stop playback in the middle of a clip being modulated, it can throw everything off until the playhead crosses back through a point being modulated. A good way to combat this is to add modulation points at the very beginning and ends of the clips. If there's no modulation occurring there, make a modulation point at neutral. This usually (mostly) fixes it for me.

    G'luck

ye i tried experimenting and adding modulation points at the beginning and end. It's still freaking hard to track it when you do something like Sustain and Soft... but I figured there was something about having to mess around with the start and end times.

I guess by neutral you mean 50 or the middle point of the graph right? Cuz I've been starting it from 0 when there isnt a modulation required.

Either way, it's facking frustrating to balance it... I feel as though when you have more than one modulation on the same clip some inteference also occurs.

I think that's dependent on what you're modulating. Like some things are 0-100, some are bipolar, some are binary(/boolean? fuck it I don't know the word), etc. Usually Live does a pretty good job of reading this stuff in my experience.

Now this I haven't experienced, and I do a lot of clip modulation when I'm working with sound design. Maybe (hopefully) it's in your head?

it's more percieved I guess. But basically what was happening to me is that I had a sustain pedal going through some chords, and then in the next set I activated the soft pedal with the sustain. The moment it was activated it glitched out and only played a few notes... like as if it didnt properly read the notes at all... seriously idk what the fuck is going on. The sustain was still active but the soft pedal just failed...

    hey, ( . )( . ),

have you tried to define one of, or all, the automations on track level instead of on the clips? :dunno:

or does this difference exist only in me head? :dunno:

all the best for all of us, including working automations at all possibly applicable levels...

@nadirtozenith yes clip and track automation is different. Sustain Pedal is done through MIDI CC on clip level. Annoying as shit cuz it really doesnt need to be. Unless someone can tell me a way to add the Sustain Pedal on Addictive Keys to track automation where I can just turn it on/off... I tried conifguring it but it wouldnt let me...

also @Cav Emp how does studio one handle this? Would you be able to test it out for me? I am willing to use another DAW just for this project idea if it can handle MIDI CC automation better...

    hey, ( . )( . ),

perchance duplicating your midi track to another one then consolidating it then automating midi ccs on that track, on that clip, could help, not sure though. :dunno:

bests, the bests of those, for all of us...

Hmmm. I don't have Addictive Keys, but if you can think of a practical way to test this I'd be happy to try it out for you. If you need me to, I can probably download AK on the sister site for testing purposes.

As a rule of thumb, I can't think of anything I've tried to do in S1 that didn't go as planned.

me thought that just for the purpose of the less problematic rendering of the end results.

nah you dont need to use AK, just try out a few clip modulations on the same clip (or however CC is done in S1) and let me know if it doesnt screw you over.

S1 is looking really good right now... may download a trial and check it out and if I like it alot, I'll make a purchase and switch. My Live days are coming towards an end...

Oh, well I do that all the time. And drawing automation in S1 is frankly way more feature-rich than in Live. Snapping, you can drag through points and automatically move them. You can draw shapes like waveforms and increase their amplitude over time, etc. Only DAW that I've seen gives you more options with drawing automation is FL

S1 doesn't use clips though. It's all track based. A single midi or audio clip is called an event but it's all just on the arranger
