In that case they haven't got anything to feel aggrieved about, and they should just carry on in obscurity if it makes them happy. People should follow their goals whatever they are

All I am saying is I know for a fact that people can penetrate the music business on talent alone, with not too much effort. If you are a songwriter get yourself a publisher. If you are a musician get your music heard locally. If you are any good you will get noticed, but moaning and bitching doesn't get anyone anywhere.

Like I said before, I don't think anyone here has been bitching about not getting recognition.

The bitching is about the way the media behaves. I don't feel like the "painting or sculpture industry" is forcing anything on me but I do feel like I have to go live in a forest if I want to avoid these "music artists".

It's not just music where the media are out of order.

A couple of months before this gig these kids were playing at pubs in front of 40 people. Now they are touring with Wolf Alice. The door is open for those who knock

Of course not but music is something that I care about and the general subject of this forum.

In this day and age even people who are occasional listeners can get annoyed by what the media disguises as music.

For example, I think everyone understands by now that women should behave sluttier than prostitutes. I am already wearing heels and showing my butt so I think we could move on with this message... I don't want to have to go live in the woods.

Since music has generated revenue artist have been exploited by execs and record labels, and cookie cutter pop sensationalist have been pushed above more talented artist because they could essientially generate more revenue. I've read about this as far back and farther then the mo town era. This isn't anything new. And ironically in this day in age with technology you can go directly to the source of talented mucisians. You don't have to rely soley on the radio

Yep, it goes back to Motown, but the current predicament can be traced back to Stock, Aitken & Waterman (100+ hits). Those Scandinavian fellas (Max, Stargate) took note of their success, and decided to employ similar strategies utilizing their encyclopedic knowledge of the Abba and Bony M blueprint for commercial success. The rest as they say is history.

    I usually only browse, read and absorb. But I registered only to type this;

Listeners now have the attention span of a fish. I showed a progressive track to a friend of mine and she said "I waited 1:30 seconds to listen to the drop, can't you start with it?" Got me thinking. Why do we spend time working on flashy and nice intros/breakdowns only so they skip to the drop?

  11. I quoted stevitch because I thought that it is an important statement and it was written way early in this time line so thought that many might have missed or skipped it...

...and, most radio does suck big huge like, but every time I put on WFUV, no matter what genre the station and disk jockey is focusing on, I know it is expertly curated and is interesting for me to listen to. http://www.streamingthe.net/WFUV-90.7-FM-New-York-Fordham/p/8830/live

What's a "wanna-be bedroom producer"? You're either are a bedroom producer or you're not! And since when is viewing a video "a read"? :)

Besides that, all I know is, bedroom producers don't give a fuck about pop and sounding like the shit that's supposedly hot!

Except for maybe mainstream EDM Pop Radio shit which sounds the same, is composed and arrangenged in the same building blocks manner over and over and over again. Which what the guy in the video states.

    your on
your only 10??. honestly?.. you aren't old enough to know, just what it is that you don't even know yet :D

You arent old enough to be aware of the things that you do not know... I said it twice, I know... It might be weird to wrap your head around that comment... but trust me, as you get older, you will constantly look back at yourself, and think how much you did NOT know, when you were younger... just in general.

For instance... when you get to 6th Grade, you'll think, "oh, those looser 4th and 5th graders... theyre so clueless..." etc.
Then you'll do it again, after middle-school (if in U.S.), then after HighSchool... you will think all the grade-schooloers are clueless... then after college you will think the same shit.
You have a ton of living and learning to do mate, and you have NOOOO idea how shitty Pop-music has been (including the little peckerheaded-cunts that listen to it).

    I'm done :D

also./ all I know is mainstream douche-bag edm artists, are just that... douchey, and for the societal drones to eat up...

for exmple, that twat Dave Guetta... LORRRRRRD do I hate that music!!!

  15. I will find the source if someone wants it; vinyl sales out-performed total revenues to artists on all social media outlets like youtube, etc. That is a major ass fucking prison rape to artists everywhere and may need it's own thread. It is kind of a tangent of sorts from this one.

And don't forget: even want to use the same sounds as somebody else as opposed to being innovative.
That's not a knock on EDM, but a knock on "copycat-ism" or fear of being unique instead of formulative.

if you post your music on Soundcloud (Progressive House) do not start with a long intro.. i've stopped this now.. as like you say people skip it anyway.. get straight to the point.. i even skip the intro just to hear the drop.. yes have the long intro for DJ's of course. I say this as i've noticed my friends skipping to the drop always referring to the intro as boring.. shame but that's how impatient our listeners are now :dunno:

Ten years ago i was signed with an independent label with a band,we had a few endorsements etc.
Anway we did the same stuff, editing songs ,cutting away intros etc, trying to please people and let me tell you,its not fucking worth it.
Ask yourself who you are trying to please, because by doing this you may reach a few percent more people, but would you really want to destroy your integrity for those 5-10% of people?
You can only develop yourself as an artist if you stop doing what everyone else is doing and write from your heart and soul.
This is the real deal with the devil, reaching out to the dumb crowd, who cares.
If youre good you will reach the other crowd, the loyal one.
Stop doing music for the sake of money and do it for the sake of art and you will grow, trust me,keep doing what you do and you will get stronger and stronger, confidence and skill comes from within.

"wanna-be bedroom producer" nice title but lol Modjo band from France was wanna-be bedroom producers and they hit top with their first and only album :disco:

  20. Hell yea Von_Steyr, when I was young, beautiful and full of spunk I had multiple opportunities to sign with larger labels and every single one had definite ideas about how, where and what my material was to be, in their vision and to be translated into reality, no ifs, and or buts. I begged out of all of the bullshit (and didn't fuck the one hot babe executive chick on my once and only moral ground crusade of artistic purity, that was maybe over the top in retrospect, oh man, she was a real hottie). On one hand I wish I hadn't, but on the other hand I just couldn't and wouldn't sink to my knees in creative surrender. I did the same thing in the advertising field, they wanted me big time but that would have in reality been a true dance with the devil and one in which my soul would have been lost. Selling death food for McShit would have made me the enemy.
