This is really easy to do. I think there are also bigger "Teensy" boards for more faders, pots, and knobs. Great stuff!

One nice little touch, if you are going to do such a project, is the little led cup/holder thingys. (super important!)

The issue with the Teensy is that building a custom controller gehts more expensive than buying a ready product no ? Fair enogh around 20 $ for just the board (which is out of stock )

Usually it is so, if You build it with new components, and want it to look nice and fancy,
But if You don`t care how it looks, and use some parts of broken keyboards, than You can do it with a very little investment.

At the end of the day, it works, and there is a satisfaction that You built it!

the WeMOS D1 is maybe a better alternative than the Teensy ?!?

there is a lot of methods to build a DIY MIDI controller: Livid Instruments' products (Brain Jr, Brain V2 etc), Arduino, there are some fantastic things on SparkFun Electronics and SpickenzieLabs... I lately decided to build a DIY drum pad, just as a Roland SPD SX, but only controller. I think I'll stick with Arduino. I would have gone with Brain Jr. of Livid Instruments, but it does not support PIEZOs...
