Good lyrics or sentimental self-absorbed bullshit?

    You got a lotta nerve
To say you are my friend
When I was down you just stood there grinning
    You got a lotta nerve
To say you gotta helping hand to lend
You just want to be on the side that's winning

You say I let you down
You know it's not like that
If you're so hurt why then don't you show it
You say you've lost your faith
But that's not where it's at
You have no faith to lose and you know it

    I know the reason
That you talk behind my back
I used to be among the crowd you're in with
Do you take me for such a fool
    To think I'd make contact
With the one who tries to hide what it don't know to begin with

You see me on the street
    You always act surprised
You say, "How are you? Good luck."
    But you don't mean it
When you know as well as me
    You'd rather see me paralyzed
Why don't you just come out once and scream it

No, I do not feel that good
When I see the heartbreaks you embrace
If I was a master thief perhaps I'd rob them
And though I know you're dissatisfied
With your position and your place
Don't you understand it's not my problem

I wish that for just one time
You could stand inside my shoes
And for just that one moment I could be you
Yes I wish that for just one time
You could stand inside my shoes
You'd know what a drag it is to see you

Interesting but think there too much "you" references in it. As you mentioned pretty self involved in a way I guess but who knows, only you can decide

I'm just curious as it was written by one of the so-called "greatest" modern day lyricists who changed the face of music.

I'm not familiar with the lyrics but in the right context/delivery method/emphasis as in phrasing could be great I suppose

Unfortunately it's a bit difficult to find a decent performance example on the internet as the gentleman in question has very good lawyers :)

In my opinion, a good song should celebrate Life, or something in that direction. ?

This one is somehow too sad.
    I don`t like it!

The Blues has a happier vibe than this :blues:

Had a quick look and won't ruin it but it makes more sense now as much written by the Artist in question was in a similar fashion.
Pretty interesting really when you think about it and explains about how music is all about the delivery and not so much the lyrics themselves. Very interesting indeed

Yes, very scathing and acerbate, but before him lyrics were generally all rosy and idyllic :)

I always liked this band called "Windsor Drive". Their lyrics really move me. This particular song is pretty generic. But their older songs like "Fall" and "In Dreams" is very deep. Too deep for many folks to comprehend. But as a songwriter myself, I can very well understand what is being implied by the Kipp Wilde - the lead singer. Their EP - "Bridges" is very inspiring and the sounds are amazing! Very dreamy.

This is a good lyricist in my opinion. Deep and beyond the heads of of society's angrily shallow & hate-filled mind.

When reading (as opposed to listening to, which I do not recommend) the singer's lyrics of this era, one must take into consideration that they (these) were written about five decades ago. Different things make different sense in different times. This song's lyrics are really well-composed and can stand on their own to be read (which I recommend, as opposed to listening to them) as poetry. The rhymes (which are of a sophisticated scheme) within the verses offset the points attached to them. The poem is a consummate indictment of a narcissistic sociopath, which could be a lot of people. Does the style and manner of expressing the sentiment hold-up well in the current sociolinguistic climate?

Too bad it was written by – or attributed to – Robert Zimmerman, who was a pre-fab phony who vampirized Woody Guthrie's cred by visiting him on his deathbed and having it publicized – and so on. This article expresses some of my views of the legendary charlatan.

You know what's really strange is that at first glance the lyrics it the lyrics reminded me of the sort of lyrics another great artist wrote along the lines of as in Jeff Buckley.

You can really understand the power of influence etc How strange is that! Have learned something from that I never knew

Considering the guy who wrote that article also wrote one titled,
"Proof that John Lennon Faked his Death", I don't know how much credit we should give to his words... This just sounds like a nutjob, mate..

LOLOLOLOL I would hack into this guy's computer just to rename the article's title to "Proof that the Mental Wards have WiFi".
Yeah and the ancient pyramids were supposed to be parallelogram-shaped. And Spiders totally only have 3 legs. The Indians were also just a bunch of white dudes, too.
This one's definitely missing a couple screws. I can fix it - I just need a big hammer, a shovel, and a gallon or 2 of bleach.
    :rofl::rofl::rofl:
