What VST needs to be on every track, what needs to be on every Buss.. No exceptions! Simple and less CPU intensive = better

EQ/High pass filter; Your DAW's native EQ will do.

VU meter, for correct gain staging; I use Studio One's native meter.

 

Just my opinion of course but nothing needs to be anywhere apart from maybe a limiter on the master to control clipping. It all depends on the sounds you are using and the results you want to achieve. I have made many tracks where some channels have had no processing simply because they didn't need it.

Waves SSL Master Bus
API 2500
Maximus

Synths:
Any EQ ever
Whatever compressor sounds best

Master:
Multiband compressor of choice
Softube RS127 for balance
Parametric EQ to cut roll of bass, do final adjustments.
Whatever limiter sounds best.
