Just curious. When I started producing I thought the idea of ReWire seemed AWESOME. Thing is, I never really found a practical application for it. Surely someone here uses it. What do you do with two DAWs that you can't do with one?

Using Live's Operator (handier to pragram than FM8 IMHO) & Drum Racks within Logic Pro X.

Sometimes when ur in another studio the default DAW might be something you don't prefer using for writing, but you do enjoy it for mixing and what it's all hooked up to... so you can use ReWire to make it more intuitive to bounce between more than 1 DAW as you go along the process...

used heavily in collabs as well in the studio where the artist probably uses FL to quickly jot down some melody ideas, then the mixing engineer comes in and opens up Cubase or some shit and does his tings...

using reason synths in logic, they seem so easy on the cpu and the cv patching possibilities are nice

I use Renoise along with Ableton Live through Rewire. I have no problems with sync at all and generally, I find it a great way of working. Of course I would prefer if Renoise just loaded as a VST within Ableton - It doesn't, but it's fine anyway.

Thanks for this post I am interrested aswell how other people work with rewire I gave it up years ago as it was a bit buggy ( crashed sometimes ) so I focused to get everything from one DAW , but I am sure it can increase creativity if you use two DAWs at the same time ... so guys if You use rewire what would be a "DREAM TEAM" for You ?
... ahhh and HAPPY FRIDAY the 13th !!!!

I use it every time. I love the synths in Reason but use Ableton as my DAW, so rewire Reason into Ableton. This also allows me to process Reason synths with VSTs as well as do all my MIDI in Ableton.

Rewire is okay, but I only use it between Logic and Cubase, or Ableton and Cubase. Which is mainly because Cubase isn't normally my thing.
BUT... Rewire is made by the propellertwats - the same assholes who made "Reason" - which is the shittiest software in the history of software. Anyone who knows me, knows my sheer hatred for the Propellertwats.
I must say, my Reason 8 and iLok2 purchase was the best $448 pair of buttplugs I ever used. LOL
But back on topic - I don't often see the need for Rewire anymore, as I can usually get everything I need to get done, all inside one DAW. Or I just bounce the tracks in one DAW and import to the other. There's a lot that goes on in my workflow when producing a song, so therefore adding Rewire to that truckload of tools is too much for me to handle sometimes and I get slightly overwhelmed. My tracks aren't just your typical Lead, piano, bass and drumbeat arrangement. Most of my songs have around 60-90 tracks in their arrangements. It may not sound like it, but there is more sounds going on there than you think. I just seamlessly blend them together pretty well through EQ and lots of processing. So adding another thing like Rewire, which is rather redundant in my personal workflow, can occasionally be too much for me to juggle all at once. :winker:

Rewire is just amazing... It allows me to use 3 different DAW at the same time, and specially Reason mighty THOR.
If someone don't know or just ignore the true power of rewire, then I feel sorry for them...

I typically like to track in pro tools - it's easy to punch in to fix small mistakes, waveforms are easy to read to point out problem areas in tracks that should be redone, vst3 helps me get multiple mics recording the same source in phase. But I prefer to handle the more creative side of the production process in live - the DAW itself is far more intuitive, macro controls, automation and midi mapping are far more convenient and while in this mode of thought I want to be as free as possible to get my thoughts down. Then it's back to pro tools to get into the mixing mindset. ReWire has been awesome for me to send audio between these two DAWs without having to constantly bounce everything down and drag it over. I even set up Ableton templates to speed up the transition work.

Especially that Malstrom synth. That was my main reason for purchasing Reason. The Malstrom synth. Damn, that is a beautiful sounding synth.

I used to pull Reason projects into Cubase with it. It allows for per-channel processing with VST plugins. :)

i have never had a problem with it. used mainly with reason for the drum machines and the rex player and, for me at least it hardly uses any resourses.
that being said i don't use it so much nowadays. i just can't stand working in it.there was a time i loved reason... but their intractable attitude to 3rd party plugins and a truly annoying interface ( almost as bad as kontakt etc : )
ooccasionally i will run fl studio which also runs as plugin - i do a lot of midi in fl and then switch over for the rest... otherwise everything you want is usually in the daw these days so not bothering so much now
