Soundtoys causing Ableton to clip on purpose?

I recently downloaded an old version of soundtoys (the only one that was available and working for mac), it was working fine and I loved what decapitator did to my drums and bass, but then I noticed that it makes the audio tracks that I applied it to clip in a very weird way? Is this something they implemented on purpose so that we would have to purchase a legit copy? Or is there another reason as to why this is happening? Btw I tried turning it off, the amount of distortion that I was applying was very minimal so there is no way that it would cause it to clip!

I've attached a screenshot to this to show what I mean.

Is the plug-in itself clipping? If so, turn the output knob down. Or, stick a limiter after it just to rule out the plug-in being at fault.

Your drums inputting into the plug-in could be too hot, which would mean it wouldn't matter how little distortion you were using, it would still clip.

The Ableton channel you are using for the drums was at -3.5 db, try turning that down to say -10 db. That could also establish if it's the plug-in at fault or just too hot.

One other thing, as plug-ins have been known to fail on occasion, copy the track to another, and remove 'decapitator' then add another instance and see if that fixes it. in which case apply the old settings to the new track and delete the old one.

Thing is, even if i turn off the vst and delete the channel, or mute it or bring down the output etc the master channel still shows that its clipping.

Bump* Googled a bit and found out that pre 4.1 versions of soundtoys plugs had an issue where they would introduce high pitched feedback noise to the audio track. The one I downloaded was 4.0.2 so that might explain it...

That's a pity, although at least you know now for certain what's wrong.

I have found the reason why! Turns out I was wrong, seems like it was some sort of a timebomb that would trigger it to clip and make a buzzing noise after 5-10min :dont:

In my case, instead of clipping, they cause some kind of hiss, like a whistle or a white noise, really loud in volume. I guess it truly is a time bomb system. A pity, for sure

for osx, the last "stable" version of sound toys available on sister site would be 4.02. I recommend doing a comprehensive unintall, all hidden files etc, of whatever you have installed already, and start from there. I had to do that awhile ago, and everything has been fine since then on any non-legit sound toys...

I've tried uninstalling, but it seems that everytime after a 5-10min it starts doing the same thing. What hidden files? I scanned through my laptop and deleted everything soundtoys related, although I'm not 100% sure since the hidden files could be named in obscure ways on purpose.

EDIT: 3rd time I reinstalled, its working! BUT I'm now scared to even turn my wifi on :D since I'm pretty sure thats why it hasnt done the buzz thing yet.

It's been a few years, but it definitely is a PITA to uninstall..... loads of hidden stuff, i will see if I can find my notes... DEFINITELY NEVER TURN ON WIFI when using Soundtoys plugins EVER once you have them working. And I would block each and every one of them with Little Snitch and or handsoff, and probably block their url (there is a specific one) from all system processes etc...

This may sound stupid because I have never used a Mac before, but can you not go in to the router webpage and block all the relevant websites that Soundtoys uses to dial home?
