This thread is about the best cheap investment you have made for music production, doesnt matter what it is.
My best cheap investment was a gel wrist pad.It cost about 3$.
You can work a lot longer without any pain in your wrist, love it.

I'd say it was Hornet's VU meter. I paid 4 Euros and I use it on every project now.

    EDIT
I need to add this: Velcro Strips. A 50 unit pack cost me about $2.00. I bought like 10 packs and I'm yet to finish the second pack. No more cable tangles for very little money.

  8. My first string winder. It was a relevation to have been turned on to this wonder invention, not only because of how much time it saved me but mainly because of the little spoon scoopy part that helps me remove a guitar pin without damaging it. Best invention since the pizza.

I paid an electronics store clerk about $5 for a lot of clean shipping padding and foam. Used the stuff for room acoustic treatment and my mixes got better. I was a poor college student at the time so $5 was actually not that cheap. Had to miss two meals but it was worth it.:speaker:

I once traded an underused tv for an M-Audio Axiom49 mkII. Great trade. As for inexpensive stuff: I bought a 5 pack of Neutrik connectors off of Amazon for about $15. Been repairing cans with them ever since. Haven't gone through them yet.

Oooh! Actually, I nominate my $7 soldering iron.

Yes it is an under-rated pad controller, was a steal and I am blown away by the build quality and expressiveness. Far far better than big names...

Coil mics ($1) and contact mics ($0.80). Awesome fun!
I was given a compressor pedal (Boss CS-2!) which the owner thought was broken. He just didn't understand what a compressor did, haha. One of the best compressor pedals around.

I was also given a spring reverb from my friend (guitarist). I put it to good use:
