The hate-full eight lol, i don't mind off topic if it at least has something that relates to the original post and not totally off the rails
We are not worried about first-time offences it happens even to the best of us, it's the repeated ones that are the issues. he was dealt with already:bow:

I'm for whatever it takes to get rid of profanity, racism, hatespeak, etc. Everyone can have a bad day or post, and I think a slap on the wrist element should be involved. But as we recently found out, there are people/trolls out there whose sole existence is to down vote members they don't like, and i think that activity should be easily noticed and accounts deleted. but that's no big deal, just activity that has no use other then to try and create harm.

This is an interesting question, as no one wants censorship, but i think with the council of mods on this and sister site, there are fair minds at work, and it would take something egregious. But I think bans perhaps should be thought about in terms of what I mentioned above, or cyber bullying, or MORE IMPORTANTLY, anyone that puts anyone here in any physical or legal risk intentionally. Whether that be threats, or revealing information, or stealing information, or disseminating it. Also revealing contents of private conversations etc...

Everyone at the very least has a right to privacy, decency, and acceptance of different views (to a point...i do NOT mean racism, homophobia, etc... we are past that...)... '

a "troll" button isn't a bad idea, a gentle quotient that mods and other members can be aware of rather then "biting" and wasting time and other peoples energy in senseless bs.

For the most part, a clean establishment has been run here, ... I have seen some unfairness, and that is sad, but i think for the most part everyone has conducted themselves with accord and appropriately.

I just want to keep it a class act. We are an international community as I have said many times, so sometimes things are read "wrong", and there are mistakes, ... but at the end of the day I would like to see this place (and sister site) a safe haven for the dissemination of ideas and information that is fair, informative, supportive, fun, and does not discriminate against anyone.

I have always said that this is a place of valuable resources and information and needs to say that way for the many members here, but the hatred and cyber bullying that rears its ugly head and the profanity laced attacks against some members are intolerable to me. Now sometimes we might have made the mistake of directing our words towards a provoked member after they were attacked and that is unfortunate but long time members have to also understand that we have to be the better example here and not resort to the same cycle of madness that the newbies and trolls bring to our forum and take the higher ground, which is the harder path.

I just saw that the thread on hip hop in rock and roll academy was locked.

Maybe I missed something, but I don't get it.

Locking threads means stupidity cannot be challenged and yet the greatest threat to stupidity is confrontation with reality.

Banning stupidity does not get rid of it. Just decide what you believe in - and implement it!!!

Agree mostly about racism, profanity or hate speak etc. But adding one more 'button' will be used again for trolling purpose just like you said if someone hates someone he will hate him everywhere. Instead, I am more for reducing these buttons to only like, dislike and a thanks button. Even then dislike should be used by senior members not someone who has just joined. Encouraging good gestures is better than expressing any negative aspects in turn less room for promoting hatred and animosity.

agree @ed-enam, that was why we changed dumb button to nasty button. has cut down somewhat on the vote system abuse some, but some still use it for that purpose.

Profanity doesn't belong in that list. Surely?
You can't really ban anyone. There's always ways. Especially when given a reason. Bans invigorate the sense of injustice and rage in those causing problems. It just makes it worse. Better to ignore them and delete when they spam.

If the truth is accepted as insult, then it is war, because there is obviously no reasoning with such people. This forum is a joke; moderators moderate posts - in a legal case this would be regarded as tampering with the evidence. And although democracy is a joke by it self, because it is always merely capitalism (meaning primitivism), when you are pushed as you are here, I cannot not remember dodecaphony - here you are stuck with exactly that - twelwe choices - none of which can enable you to reflect upon this shit of an americanized primitive world!

@duskwings, there is no one saying you can't respond but why must you resort to name calling and profanity in degrading the member who may not know what you know about music?

Man, I was trying to understand your point (silly me) and get some specifics cases to make some boundaries about your particular taste of "trolling" or "offensive". You brought this thread and that's why I asked what I asked. But, like other member here said before, carry on with this. Sorry my lousy english. These are the last words I will write or read here (I mean this thread).
    Peace and respect.

Well, in that case, get the ban hammer ready lol. Give them a stern warning first, then ban away. :)

I think it's ok for the occasional profane word (heck, I use it myself in "real life"), but SAiNT himself abhors it, and out of respect for that, and not getting off the rails, i think we can exist without it for the most part... It's someone else's house, I abide by their rules...

and banning can be a slippery slope, but there are some things that call for it, as I mentioned above. intentionally trying to cause or incite physical or legal harm against another member. Simply inexcusable to me. We can agree to disagree sometimes,... but when someone tries to take away life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness from someone else here, they at least have violated what "i" think is acceptable. And I don't like lynch mobs, and I don't want the mods to have to spend all their time deleting inflammatory or offensive posts from recidivist members. But I also realize that is playing whack-a-mole, because they just come back under new accounts. I don't want to invigorate a sense of injustice or rage in anyone, and I have seen people at the wrong end of that... it's like pornography, "can't define it, but know it when i see it" kinda thing... and I think the level thinking mods who have been very gentle know what they are doing. and if they don't, they seem open to suggestions, as obvious by this entire thread.!

Personally, I don't think profanity is a problem. This IS the internet after all. If a simple word, in any context, can be considered offensive, we are headed down a very slippery slope indeed. While i respect that this is SAiNT's site, it's the people that make it worth anything.

Remember 1984? What was the purpose of Nu-Speak? To limit the ability to communicate through the elimination of words from the language. Dangerous stuff indeed.

That said, people should still be respectful of other members. But blatant rules against profanity seems a bit ludicrous (at least to me).

Perhaps I am a little under-informed...even after 25 odd years in the I.T. biz but I fail to see how you're going to ban someone's IP. Unless that person has a static IP address, which 99% don't. If you ban their IP, all they have to do is reboot their router to force their provider to issue another dynamic IP address so unless you intend to ban every IP address in the block owned by that provider it won't work. BTW, most of us are a tad paranoid as well so we use proxy services...which throws even a bigger wrench into the "ban IP" idea.

usually i give more than a chance to people ,i don t start jumping into a thread with name calling and insults, but when stupidity (and i said stupidity, not ignorance as lack of knowledge) is persistent,it gets out the worst,or best of me,since i find it very disrespectful ,like the sllly clerk at the grocery store who asks to explain him how to play guitar in five minutes.
Most people think making or playing music is an idiot proof activity, even here, where depending on the genre someone thinks that playing around with a mouse and the white keys entitles them as musicians, and i really have a problem respecting those people, in fact i don t, but usually i stay out of topics that don t concern my range of musical interests.
Have u ever seen me saying that some member s music posted here sucks?
No because it never happened, although a lot of the music or so called music posted by a lot of people here does suck.
But do u know why nobody tells other people here that their music equals manure?
Because they r scared of the blowback: if i dont tell other people that what they r doing is only good to feed plants, nobody will do the same with mine.
So when u read comments like "this track lacks something here; i d put something there,; compress here;equalize there;u should work more on this section ..." you have to interpret those comments like "it sucks a pig s ass".
Thus don t judge the badness of comments by the way they r written, because if i (as well as someone else) wanted,i could be really mean to someone and that person wouldn t even realize that
