It's interesting anyway, many things changed in latest month:

    - Google Nik collection (photo plugins suite) now FREE !!! http://www.google.com/nikcollection/
(those plugins were expensive, and then google buy it, and now they are free)

    - Visual Studio Xamarin for FREE !!! http://www.xamarin.com/download
(they were expensive, price for year subscription)

    - Windows includes Ubuntu VM and bash shell (now you have apt-get, gcc on windows :))
(just imagine Mac OSX includes native support for running Windows applications :))
But it was only question of time, they must because command prompt and power shell sucks... and sometimes developing on windows is real pain in ass just because of that.
It's a question of time when will MS include: Docker, etc...

It's a truly fight for customers...

i agree with you and i love this fight :) windows is going to the Right directions for sure , and many people will love it.
but i don't think it will be smart move for apple to includes native support for windows applications who really need it ?
malware /virus ....etc . it will just open new doors for attacker , and trust me the Apple security team are crap :) simple vulnerability take them years to close , and even the patches always comes from Advance users :)

soon if we will see all cool Linux applications on windows , it will be amazing , i using mac OS X right now but i willing to return to windows again .

Off-topic, but I guess a question for right folks here.
Can anyone of you either break Inno Setup password or reverse it and extract files from it?

For non-programmers, does it mean we'll be able to run Linux apps on Windows, natively?

If it does, will it get us any closer to being able to do the contrary, I mean, running Windows apps on Linux?

The day I'm able to run Windows apps on Linux (without all the hassle of configuring Wine) will be the day I'll never use Windows again.

Yeah but it's a drag. I'd love to see an implementation as it is in the video.

Nope, it's not what the common user would call an "app". What will be available is a bunch of command-line tools from the unix-world, including the "shell" (the environment to run those tools in). The shell is something like a "DOS Box", just a bit more powerful.

Cygwin works actually quite perfectly. I have written whole applications in BASH-script that flawlessly ran on Windows and various Linux-flavors. OSX and the BSD-background ... now, that IS a pain in the ass (if you don't install the GNU Core Utils).

i see... and what are you smoking?

oh great.. a bunch of "command line tools" for geeks to wank with... that really helps
the rest of the computing world immensely

he can make a personal attack but can't state any of the benefits of this to anyone normal

oohh ok i see .. this means R2R will now be able to make the mac version of everything
for all the whining millennials on Z... gotcha m8... thanks for that.. really

nice shit, but I think that figuring out a way to run Mac and Win apps natively on Linux, without performance drawbacks, shall win the Nobel.

Yeah, but, after waiting for more than a decade, I lost hope.

I just can`t believe that a team of Microsoft programmers is smarter than the whole world of open source freaks working on various linux platforms...

After so much time I will aloud myself some poetic freedom and say "HERE SOMETHING STINKS VERY VERY MUCH"

kind of like Vista.. then trying to re-debut it again like it's a new improved product

kind of sneaky they made them overweight nerds (one anyway) , a shaven neckbeard (must preserve some image now !)
so they have geek cred.... yeah it smells like horse flatula..

same sh*t different year... I never update once I get the system the way I want it...

Hum I am scratching my head on this one. First use for it is safe and secure internet banking. If you like Ubuntu you should try Linux Mint really great in IMHO. Also it's great for a media center XBMC or now called Kodi is fantastic. Windows media center is pathetic.

And last but not least if you enjoy this and the sister site, Know it's Linux,

ok... that adds a little something to the discussion , have heard of mint..and have downloaded it..

@midi-man what makes mint better than Ubuntu ? another confusing factor, all the "flavors" of linux,
of course we should be aware that unix has long been used in all sorts of corporate and industry environments

and the benefits of that, do somehow trickle down, if not directly, to their users/customers in the form of increased security
    for one, as you mention

and for the stability and functionality of full blown internet entities such as the sister site,

again , what does this bash on Ubuntu mean for the non-geek? is my point... for his computer.. I have heard hints at it here
but no exposition of it... so yes I am still maintaining with my attitude until I attain nix enlightenment :bleh:

and no, the "implications" of this video (and that's all they are ( or maybe there aren't any )) .. are nowhere near clear,

someone feel free to set me straight if I am wrong... I'm waiting
