    I've installed Ableton on 2 machines. No problems.
    Maybe your machine is misconfigured. Ask for a refund.

    If you did what most of the people recommended nad its still not working I would check if you are on 32 or 64 bit.
    if you are on 32 bit and the projects which get the fatal error message have a lot of sample based plugins (like kontakt, spectrasonics and so on).. then this is the reason. switch to 64bit and youll be fine.
