I made that choice recently. Can someone suggest me some basic things to watch/read for chords and creating melodies? Thank you.

Play many instruments. Learn music theory. Improvise. Record.

I'm sorry, but the question is very vague.

Here is a good place to start =)

    Leonard Bernstein: Young People's Concerts

Tons of Info within this series, and I personally find his approach more enjoyable than some of the random crap that is increasingly floating around out there.

Amon Tobin did a pretty good job of making his own sound while sampling. His earlier works, if I'm not mistaken, were 100% samples.

Of course he tweaked them to hell but that's the beauty

It's not your fault but it sounds like you're saying "I've been toying around with sounds and now I decided to learn something about music".

If that's the case, just do it and avoid the "basic/in 7 days/easy and painless" shortcuts. There are none.

As mentioned, learn to play an instrument like guitar or keyboard. Even the very basics will help a lot. Good luck.

Might I suggest this Guy. He has courses on playing piano and music theory. He makes things easy to understand and learn IMO.

NO offense wonderchild, but if you’ve started with sampling and gotten used to it, creating your own arrangements is slightly more complex. As said already, you have to learn to play an instrument, arrange, record, etc. Good luck on your journey! Please keep us posted on your progress.
