Xfer Records has released version 1.09b2 of SerumFX, an effect plugin version of Serum that allows you to use its effects “rack” section on other tracks/instruments in your song projects.

This is a bonus plug-in, some suggested I should charge for it, but I decided to give to Serum users for FREE (as I do with all updates), as a token of thanks for your support!

DISCLAIMER: using this plug-in at this time should be considered “at your own risk”. I don’t consider it ‘experimental’ and I don’t foresee any major issues (or I wouldn’t put it here) but you never know.

    Changes over the instrument version:
    • Appears/inserts an audio FX insert in your host/DAW (instead of as an instrument).
    • Defaults to FX tab when GUI is open (instead of OSC tab).
    • Audio input is routed through the FX rack.
    • There are additional meters in the top-right for the input audio signal (input / output meters).
    • Oscillators are off by default, and do not load on preset changes (for less memory + faster load times). While not the intent of SerumFX, it is possible to route MIDI notes to SerumFX in most hosts (and enable oscs), but there is (in my opinion) little reason to do this beyond triggering Env,Note,Velo as modulator sources for FX params.
    • There is a “note latch” button in the Voicing section (lower-right) of the main panel. This enables a “stuck note” for LFOs to run. This is handy for not needing to route MIDI notes to Serum FX and still be able to hear/use the LFO’s on FX parameters.
    • If saving presets it is recommended to use “EFX ” as the prefix for the preset name. this way they will be tagged as “audio effect” in the browser.
    • WT Editor has “capture” button for recording audio input to wavetables. Similar in principle to importing a wav file using constant framesize: Will slice the incoming to 2048 samples by default, or else whatever note name (e.g. C0) or # of samples you type in to the formula text field in the WT editor.

SerumFX for Windows and Mac (VST/AU/AAX) is available as part of Serum, which costs $189 USD

Really, why? I get that you can get better FX on a plugin-per basis, but having everything in one place like that with all the modulation sources right there is pretty sweet

I don't know, the whole "handling" felt clunky to me and also pretty unintuitive with a limited feel. Make a similar chain with NYRV & your favourite plugs and you're all set. :bleh:
Anyway, i respect everyone that do like the FX section of Serum. :mates:

I could be wrong but... there are no news on Xfer Records site. :dunno: Not yet. It's a Xfer Serum add-on, isn't it?

They didn't actually announce it as its own thing. It's just in the Serum updates. You have to own Serum to see it. He really should put it somewhere that everyone else can see it, might motivate some people to buy it.

If you own Serum, it's in the user account section.

That... is dope news. Serum was a great investment for me. Constant, significant updates. It really makes sense just to give the guy his $190 and own it.

Contrast with, say, Omnisphere... which is worth buying to the extent that any fantastic synth is worth buying (and Omni, IMO is the fantastic synth), but I really don't care for the developer tbh. Greedy greedy policies.

@Cav Emp dont think Spectrasonics is greedy, because really they sampled a lot of stuff for omni and now extended the library to additional 10GB and added tons of new features. still i havnt bought it, because i dont have the money for it.

greed is and was apple, but we have discussed this dead already.
from audio devs i dont have anyone in mind which is greedy, apart from some stupid protection schemes all is good (i exclude here refx, but dont have any uptodate synth in their product line, note nexus isnt a synth)

really happy that steve is giving this away for free, really awsome!

Additional 10GB since when? I don't think I have that. My library install is from the original R2R release and I just slapped a retail license on it

But I'd call them greedy. Charging customers who bought your ~$500 discs an additional $10 per download -- that's greedy. $50 license transfer fee... IF they decide to allow you to transfer your license, that's greedy. Instruments can only be resold once and second hand buyers don't get upgrade prices.

I love Omnisphere but I'm not a big fan of Eric Persing's business practices.

  13. @Cav Emp ... that is why I still have not bought it for the crazy price of 359 bucks, the fact that what was offered is Omni One with the free upgrade to ver. 2. I don't want to chance The Pershing Piss On you so gratefully expose. I need it and want it and lust after it but will wait for the full version on a thumb drive. Maybe I am foolish for not jumping, but....

@superliquidsunshine glad I could help. I don't want to see you get screwed.

Then they'll say things like "well this is why we encourage people to read the licensing policies before buying"

    Like anybody fucking does that.

i love serums modulation and fx. glad to see this sort of plugin- just a dedicated fx section plugin will be loads easier to use than those awkward older "FX" versions of synths (e.g. predatorFX)

on a side note based on earlier comments:
logic x = one of the best value for money daw's ever
garageband = arguably the best free/basic daw around
.... apple may be greedy and filthy rich in general but in the music production sector, i don't think so

except the fact you need to buy a mac to have your free garageband running :disco:

@Cav Emp where you involved into creating sound content, recording stuff, its really expensive, the price is right they charge.
10 bucks for a box is fine, Ableton charges a lot more the box and getting a box ready costs a ot and that way they reduce costs.
license transfer fee is also fine as it makes a bit work. but never mind everybody has its own opinions and ;)

Don't mean to keep going back and forth with you on this topic, but I just want to clarify. I agree that the price tag is fair. When you consider everything it can do, and its quality compared to a, say, $150 synth, it's more than fair. But it's not $10 for the box. The box is what you buy. If you need to download it, it's $10. Per download. That's what I'm saying is greedy.

@artic, you need to buy a PC/Mac to use any decent daw (paid or free) so I don't really get that point.
but this is taking us off topic so sorry.
