So I've just started a new YouTube channel with my friend (the guitarist), and we covered Sorry by Justin Bieber. What do you guys think (it's our first project ever) ?

Im not a fan at all, and I dont really like the song, but your version is pretty much better than the original - in many ways!

 

Nice piano work. I hate the song. Bieber is a punk that needs to grow up.

Good effort. I thought the vocal tremelo was a little suspect, i.e. is it tremelo effect or real vibrato in the voice. If it's real it needs a little work to know when to use it and when not. Other than that your version of the song is OK and it's a yes from me - you're through to the next round. Oh one final thing, your expressionless faces make you look like young kids, which I'm sure you don't want to be taken for. You both need to show that you're enjoying playing/singing in your faces; feel the song, you need act a little, it's a performance and you need to perform.

 

Not a bad effort at all, the mix needs a little work IMO. Do yourselves a favor and don't mention it's a Justin Bieber song next time!

Yup. I'll agree to that and I'll say that you pretty much owned this song lol. I was never a belieber - and as a result when I saw the thread and before I clicked it, I thought of perhaps I was gonna find another one of those dark coal-black dog excrements set on fire like the ones teenagers used to put on my parents doorstep. Ie: Darker version of "poop". But I actually really enjoyed your version. Well done, mate. Props!

 

Thanks a lot for the feedback ! Yeah I'm not happy at all with the mix, the recording of the piano was very muddy, but I didn't realize until the mixing stage. At least I've learned a lot :p

I liked your song. I don't know the original, and I won't listen to it, so I just judge on what you both presented.
I like how relaxed your friend is. I hope it's not because of "some external help"
I like the structure of the song. There's tension to it.
The basic idea of the song is a bit simple, but that's probably from the original.
I like your piano play.
But what about your voice? The vibrato was already mentioned and I see it similar to Thankful. The main issue I have however is that you're holding back. When the drums kick in and the dynamic goes up, your voice should be stronger, expressing the pain. It sounds like you stay at the chest. Time to bring your belly into play! And believe what you sing. If you don't feel it, how should I as a listener?
But that's all things that will come with practice. So don't let this discourage you. I really mean it constructive!
