A couple years ago I fell into the endless Kontakt library pit . . . collecting patches and never making music. IMO, it's the best and worst piece of software out there. Best . . . it does so much — way more than any other sampler I have owned. Worst . . . uninspiring and difficult to do any fun editing. Let's face it — It's basically a ROMPLER. As a result of my dismay, my library has shrunk from 1t of goop to 200 gig of cool stuff from cool 3rd party developers. If only I could convert these treasured libraries into another format that helped breathe life into my creative madness . . .

Throughout the 90s and beyond I was a MOTU guy, but they left me high and dry. I got tired of their customer service attitude, $ updates, and 1000 page manuals. I'm digging TAL Sampler for it's simplicity and vintage vibe.

This topic clearly illustrates why the terms "music" and "musicians" are often the most ambiguous, as well as contentious of all the "Arts". Throw into the mix today's cacophony of digital artifacts and available VST's, and the endless cavern just keeps getting deeper and wider. Where in the hell is my tape deck? <lol>

2009 NI Kontakt 5 was released...... its been 6 years...... they should at least let us have some customized skins for the back panel of the software.... I've been breaking NI's Balls about the release of Kontakt 6 since 2011....

    Yes!
Folders, categories and tags. NI know how to do it, see the wonderful preset management in FM8 for example.

what would you have them do? make it look like all the Waves new plugins with steampunk graphics and so? If it aint broke why fix it Kontakt is my goto for al things Orchestra & groove drones and effect. Acoustic guitars and all the Output stuff. I have cubase and didn't even bother installing Halion. I used to use GS3 on a separate machine for VSL stuff cause its great for just that bit that was when Kontakt was new. now it my swiss arm knife for samples. how it works is alway much more important then how it looks ..

Are you able to write a single post without using the F word?

    Who cares about GUI?
I thought making music was a matter of sounds?
Not a fine GUI for your EYES thats why so many dev trying to fool poeple with shiny GUI and bad sound.

I actually like a lot kontakt... and wouldn`t like to spend any time having to "adjust" just because of a new UI.

a more practical way to sort the libraries would be welcome but nothing else.

Keeping in mind that I am a "primitive" user of kontakt... I load an instrument, map the controls, add a touch of reverb maybe, and just play.

What about creating VSTi track template? Not sure about S1 (but the procedure is going to be likely similar), but with REAPER, it's done in 3 minutes and saves lots of time in the end, as no further routing is necessary.
Kontakt, apart from tons of other 2016-ish software is super intuitive, has well-aranged GUI and while it may look dated to millenial kids, I really do enjoy it's straightforwardness.
Nope, Kontakt 5.0.0 was released in September 2011, along with Komplete 7.
At the end of 2009 Kontakt 4 was released, but throughout the year, it was about 3.5

I´ve always liked the UI. It provide a straight and very clear picture of what´s going on and it´s easy to use and very intuitive. I´ve worked with Kontakt since Kontakt1 and you´re right: Not much has changed grafic wise.... the only things that changed are new features, thats all.... and I like that SO MUCH, because I hate waisting time and creativity searching for basic features just because the developer think they´re smart and innovative!
Its like having a demand that every time there´s a new model of your car comming, the steering wheel , breaks etc should have a new place at the front seat!

First I think, who didn't buy the software has no right to complain.
Second, a lot of professional people are using Kontakt to get their job done. They are mostly not interested in UI-Change only for a more modern look and feel, they stick to what they know.
But changes, enhancing the usability are very welcome.
@mrpsanter: molemans posts would be quite short without the F* word.

Ok different strokes for different folks, I get that, But as it stands Kontakt is one of the most solid plug in ever, full screen would be nice but not essential as i have most all my plug ins mapped to my controller they all look the same and for the amount of time i spend looking at a plug in on a track I spend 10 times as long looking at the track in Mixer mode in my DAW. having a plug in all tarted up doesn't make it any better (look at the waves Butch Wiig plug in urrrgh) I guess too i like things in order like old analoge gear where knobs are set in sequence so you have visual representation of Signal flow clean and uncluttered. that had a lot to do with wiring as we'll but anyway yea. Basically anything can be improved but don't screw up other stuff in the process ( cough cough Steinberg cough cough) :)

But... Still 5 years since a relevant update. 5.5 was not a relevant update... on average most software company's will release updates for a product within 2 years.. (Except Omnispshere).

    What About Stienberg??

And then when people like Steinberg and Apple update products on an annual basis people complain they are updated too regularly and costs too much and conning customers. At the end of the line, in my opinion, products should only be updated when it's needed rather than wanted. Kontakt does not need to be updated at present, even though there may one or two things a few people may want. It is still the best and most solid and stable sampler, hence why most companies that make sample libraries make them Kontakt compatible.

Steinbergs Cubase updates are a pain somwhere. The first things they introduce in updates are bugs, bugs, bugs. After one or two hotfixes you may almost be able to run it stable ;)
The UI is as modern as stonehenge...
