    Dear guys,
last week I've switch'd from the classic xp x32 to his x64 counterpart! After passing hours hours reinstalling anything, finding the right driver, ecc.. I faced a wall! I installed my daw, as always, and my vsts with, when availabla, their x64 version).
The daw starts smooth, loading pratically only the 32bit libs and blacklisting the others!
    I'm gettin' mad as hell!!

My Cubase 5 version is legally acquired, with the lastest update installed. I'll also try to serching in the manual but nothin..

    Thanks,
    one7teen

If you want to make music that is synchronized for all kinds of plugins, use Ableton.

After using so much trackers (like octamed, fasttracker, cubase, etc...) i came to the conclusion that the tightest code lies in Ableton, quasie synchronisation of sound and software plugins.

I think some people even use Ableton for mastering tracks/songs.

Ableton just rocks, and i'll buy that software in the near future, after doing many years of research.

pity ableton mangles the sound so bad, otherwise i'd be all over it like a fat kid with a birthday cake!

i had a little of the same issue with some plugins, it can be confusing where to put cracked .dll's etc given windows 7 likes to put some stuff in program files and some stuff in program files (x86)
if i remember if was rob papen stuff and arturia stuff that was the most confusing along with native instruments not far behind.
my advice is to install each plugin one by one, and load up cubase inbetween installs and check to see they work.
there was a few versions of each of the mentioned plugins, and installing them in the wrong order somehow screwed them up for me too.
i ended up installing them in the date order they were released, and checked each one worked after each install...

    hope that helps.

So why do not use Cubase 5 in 64bit ?
If you prefer to stick with Cubase in 32bit, then here are some infos : http://audiosex.pro/index.php?/topic/962-64bit-without-compatibility-problems/page__p__8115#entry8115

Ableton Live sounds as good as any other DAW... if you do not forget to disable the auto-WARP fonction.

ah ok, not wanting to be "that guy", i will admit i have'nt used live since version 6 i think, maybe 7...
so i grabbed it to have a look again now its hit 8!

also read about procedures to avoid what i was maybe hearing as live mangling my audio :D

-Know what operations in live are neutral (no effect on sound quality) or non neutral (chapter 30 in the manual).
-Make sure the warp and fade are turned off on all your clips (if you're not warping, otherwise, stick with Hi-Q mode and the complex pro algorithm)
-Keep your projects in 32bit floating point and bounce them out...proceed to dither and change bit depth in dedicated programs like wavelab.
-use complex pro algorithm (live 8) for warping, and make sure "legacy Hi-Q" is turned off in the options

so yeah, not knowing that, i could see how we had different opinions on it lol

Lord Gaga thank you.. you made my day!
I didnt use the x64 version because the old system was 32bit-based and, for now, i dont have enough cash for the upgrade!

Thanks a lot dudes, you are very helpfully!
