I don't recall that ever being the case. You could always talk about it and potential usage/installation issues, but you were/are not allowed to link to or request.

That said I think AS has grown into something different and warez discussions are a bit misplaced now ... especially when they cause so much shit

It would seem so.i have been lurking this place for a few years now and it has always seemed relatively resourceful but it seems in recent times with the advent of things a-happenin in warezworld allot of the usually silent mouth-breathers have gotten pretty excited about the goodies that have been bestowed on here and blew their (hopefully) metaphorical load.there also seems to be a large degree of misunderstanding about what the warez scene actually is. as based upon the posts i have unfortunately read since the 1st AudioUTOPIA release dropped most seem to think this is some kind of robin hood deal where robin hood asks the paupers what they would like stealing prior to him going out and doing the rounds on the rich folk.i aint in the know but i kinda get this is more of a sport than any kind of anti-capitalist,altruistic cause

Now the dilemma is that most people are going to feel entitled to this shit for whatever reason and no amount of rules or massive, flashing, neon GIFS is going to get that message across.times they need a changing and i suppose the only way you are going to get the message across is with a brute force approach aka talk warez releases=ban.

There's a small fly in that ointment. The next thing that I'm about to say is merely a thought experiment, so please don't be alarmed (I mean you no harm):

You have, as far as I can tell, 193 posts and 14 likes. I have 1,000 e-mail addresses at my disposal (they come free with my web account). Couple that with vpn's and a couple of proxies that hide my real IP address and it wouldn't take me very long to create just enough fake users to downvote all of your posts. I could even spread out registering my "ghost" agents over a few weeks in order to evade suspicion. If downvoting alone is enough to get you banned via a machine rule, you and me and everyone else here is toast, bro.

The common term for it is cyber-bullying.

I like your improvement, though. Vet members downvoting - yes, that works for me. Nice one! :)

Totally agree, such a system would be wide open to abuse and could never be implemented. Personally, I've never been keen on the new voting system. When the new forum arrived I said at the time I would have been happy to stick with the simple 'thanks' button from the old forum, it would have caused fewer problems and a lot less deliberate trolling.

I'm not keen on instant banning, but would like to see a return to the old six (or maybe more) post approval system, and also perhaps a certain number of posts needed before you can start a thread.

I strongly disapprove of the idea of banning warez-related discussions.
    1. I'm against censorship whatsoever.
    2. I like this forum for being a place where you can help your fellow man and recieve help without questioning the legitimacy of the software you're using. There are plenty of places on the net where your technical issues are delegated with the words "contact official tech support". I don't want audiosex become one of these places.
    3. If you don't like some people's attitude here put them on your ignore list and filter out the noise yourself. Puts your mind at ease, trust me :)

Why not just follow the rules already established, as they have been all this time, and mods chastize those who don't?

Or maybe just keep starting thread-flares like this, about what measures should be taken, which rights and privileges should be restricted, how to punish the stupid evildoers? Whip up some more judgmental and wrathful consternation!

Or just be cool and play by the rules, y'all? Boring, but effective.

The solutions are obvious. But we have to be a little understanding of a few things. If it is most people's understanding that the internet should function on the widest interpretations of freedom, imagine how scenes like warez interpret this freedom. With this in mind it's ironic that we are now in a situation where we are considering banning those brothers and sisters who are (supposedly) like-minded, and we are considering restrictions and so forth, all of which fly in the face of our core beliefs about how the internet should function. It must be very uncomfortable for people like Saint to have to act in situations like this.

I think if AS gets cleaned, then we need a venting area of similar discussions right on AZ separate from the normal share threads to take it's place. I don't think it really matters that much unless the intent is to go more mainstream with AS.

My wish for next year is to ban people who are cursing all day long in the forums. we should respect each other here.

I've always liked the "High-End Theory" Gearslutz operating model. Each thread is like a wealth of information. (except for the 500 series vs 19", 1073 clone, converter, and mic capsule arguments)

I disapprove the idea of banning warez-related discussions as well, but I strongly approve the one related to rules inobservance. If warez-related discussions are not admitted here (and I can understand the reasons) and this is clearly stated by rules, I don't know why not proceed to the expulsion of those who break them.
No rule is respected without the certainty of punishment.
This is not censorship: it just means putting a boundary to the topics.

But...I repeat, there should be a place.....to discuss and help each other also about warez (I'm speaking only about issues, requests are only an unuseful and stupid thing)....Maybe Audioz could be the answer?
