Not a final mix, but done on the fly. My pewter has to go to shop for a couple weeks and wanted to get feedback and some time/distance before re-mixing. Recorded the drums and guitars at a local recording workshop. (Didn't have a multi-channel interface at time) Brought those files home and recorded everthing else pretty much in real time. I am playing everything but 6 string guitars, which a friend played, and the yangqin at the end, the only wave file/loop.(couldn't resist) And as always, I am grateful when someone wastes 3 1/2 minutes of their life to listen to some crap I created. http://soundcloud.com/allen-lee-geddes/odd-man-out

Looks like you are using your time wisely. Let's get together sometime, maybe I'll see ya at Swanky's. I'm gigging Tuesday through Sunday this week. Next Sunday and Monday I'm in my Studio. That track is really coming along nicely! I need lyrics for the next one I'm doing, the music tracks are done, I added a horn section and that filled the bridge nicely. If I get to writing lyrics soon we could link up and record some vocals and do some mixing.

    Rock ON!

Ha Ha, new avatar. Would love to re-mix this from scratch with your help. I'll have files backed up on external drive but the HP has to get fixed. Been putting off sending it back before I tied up this loose end. Mix is pretty basic now but I would like to trick it out here and there, pimp it a little.

I would love to help you with this, We can turn this sucker out. Can you put the track stems on your HD or a memory stick? If you can we could mix it here.

    Nice track!

The lead vocals kinda get lost in the mix from time to time, maybe you could bring it more upfront.

Thanks. This is the kind of constructive comment I can use. Very little compression anywhere. A little on lead vx.. Vocals do need smoothed out some. I haven't done anything to the backup harmonies yet, just 6 of me (3 parts, each sung twice). panned out a little.

You could definitely try more compression on the lead vocals. Don't be afraid of the compressor

Or you could try the Waves vocal rider as an alternative/addition...

How did you set the EQ on the lead vocals?

A tube modeled compressor, very soft. Played with frequency roll offs in the reverb a little. EQ-just a little added air and some mid roll off with parametric on the virtual mixer in Audition. Nothing at all done to backups. This is still very much a rough sketch. A Rode NT2-A in a small triangular closet with Auralex squares covering most of it. Getting used to and still experimenting with the new mic and the "color" of closet and crappy pre-amp in the Tascam US-800 interface.. I know I can do better, but I had to start somewhere.

How about a tad more kick drum?
    Sounds really cool.

triangle. One of them is spinning in front of a mid/side mic set up. Agogo and 2 cow bells miked with a cheap sennheiser dynamic. Congas are miked mid/side with Rode and Sennheiser. All the percussion is real except the clave and cabassa. Those are played on a synth in real time.
