Best antivirus is dead antivirus. I made an experiment two years ago (Windows) and never looked back. Yes, most of my software is cracked. The difference is huge. If you don't believe me, try it on virtual machine. :)

Use 360 Security Essentials Along with Malwarebytes. Scan Weekly with Malwarebytes. Turn on all 3 antivirus engines in 360 Security Essentials During surfing net or sharing data.
Best free way to be secure and fast.

Comodo is amazingly Fast but antivirus component is not great.
    Windows firewall provides best security.
Avast is fast and good but I dont like daily advertisements.
360 security essentials with ccleaner, auslogics registry cleaner and Malwarebytes is the best protection with speed.

Believe me.. I have tried all freewares. No single app is best. It is the way you use your apps together.
And you will be all safe.

Kasp may slow down some machines, so I use Eset Nod + Outpost Firewall.

Windows Defender lately has started to warn me about r2r keygens being viruses, does it happen to anybody else? Before switching to something else I would like to know if anybody else had this issue.

Windows Defender win 10 is not bad this days.
But third party antivirus, I think McAfee does the job.

Yes. I've been using Windows 10 with Windows Defender, Hitman and a great tool called Common Sense for a while. Really great combo.

I highly recommend Hitman. It does a very quick and rigorous scan on every startup and that's all. Its malware detection rate is amazing.

I prefer no antivirus, since I'm advanced user.
However I still have NOD32 8.0 which I will dump very soon. Whatever you download or install, this thing eats CPU almost halfway, scanning it all the time.

Otherwise I'd recommend Malwarebytes Anti-Malware Premium. It's lighter than the others (at least for me on i7 processor)
Avira is not bad too, but I hate their recent versions.

    Summed up:
Advanced users - Hosts (http://winhelp2002.mvps.org/hosts.htm) + AdBlock + No porn sites (please )
    Noobs & normal users - Kaspersky/Bitdefender/Avira etc

I read complete topic from the beginning to the end, and still can't figure out what to use... everyone of you using something different :)
I have Antivir for years, but few months ago I noticed some strange cpu spikes... avira.servicehost.exe, just randomly from cpu 0% to 28% and again and again.
So tonight I decided to change something, because when I remove Avira cpu is just fine... when system is idle, cpu is 0%.
Dual core processor (latest Intel), does anyone has similar CPU? Should I try NOD32 or MS Essentials, but because Windows 7 is not legit I don't know if I can install MSS Essentials ?!?

If you want paid Antivirus, Bitdefender Internet Security is one of the best. Antivirus engine is great and no cpu spikes. It's a winner. But still you have to use Hitman pro and Malwarebytes with it to get total security.

I use - 360 Security Essentials with malwarebytes. (CPU efficient secure way)

Use any CPU efficient antivirus. Yes, Comodo Internet Security is a great tool. Use it with Hitman Pro and Malwarebytes. Nothing can touch you. But you should do a weekly scan with Hitman Pro and Malwarebytes. This is the fastest solution.

I keep my antivirus off all the time. But when i connect external drive to my pc, I switch it on with maximum security. During internet surfing and downloading, I dont click on anonymous links or download from untrusted site.

But you must use Hitman Pro and Malwarebytes Amtimalware. No malware can beat them.

I used to use Norton 360. Had a small hit on boot time, but it was easy to control what it did and didn't scan. Once my trial went out I decided to look for some other options and found this site.

    https://www.av-test.org/en/

Bitdefender had great scores, same with Nortons latest software. Ive been using Nortons software since 1998 so I went with something different and got bitdefender.

It is definitely faster than Norton 360, but it does have less control. So far I havent had anything forcefully deleted during a scan, but we will see how it holds up.

Check out that site though. Its a great comparison tool for antivirus software.

Already installed NOD32v9, no cpu spikes, just can't believe. I will see how it will be.
One thing I notice, there is no false detection on some plugins which I have with Antivir.
