I think project files is the quickest way to go here. Upload some you don't mind others looking in to to learn more than reading a few paragraphs?

Here it is, hopefully it was of some help. Its kind of hard to freestyle explain all the things that i was attempting to describe. When watching it back i was thinking, why didnt i just phrase it like that? Anyways i hope its of some value to you guys.

@SyNtH. thanks to share your experience, it will be useful for many of us, noob or not. I couldn't say it better than ned944 with my poor English, but I think all the same.

    Alright folks,

SyNtH's tutorial has really inspired me, so I've decided to give ambient music a try.

This is my first attempt, so feel free to criticize (I actually hope you do) but don't be discouraging, please. :)

Here's the link. This song is called Hourglass.

    https://clyp.it/tzz5wuou

The whole thing is 100% generative.

I've used Tonecarver's plugins (crazy stuff!) to feed a few rhythmic instances of Chromaphone.

Then I tried to capture a melody out of the generated patterns, selecting a few notes here and there, and fed it to another instance of Chromaphone, this time with a bowed instrument timbre...

The whole thing is Chromaphone, actually, except for the "windy" part, which is Studio One's Mai Tai.

I've used just a few effects, automated to taste during the track. Valhalla Plate, Tritik Delay and Tantra...And Studio One's EQ, comp and limiter...Lots of pan and volume automation as well, of course. That's all.

Let me know what you think guys.

    Cheers,

    R.

Really cool, although one part of timbre is harmonically quite stabby for the main percurssive bell thingy. Liking the reverb and stuff. I feel like you could fill up more parts of the spectrum here and there will different sound types. I would also recommend some eq sweeps for some parts if they become overly resonant, but apart from that it's awesome! Keep it going.

@RMorgan . I like it. The choice of your main instrument and how it is used, reminds me a little a piece from the original sountrack of an anime I've found cool a couple years ago.

    props to ( . )( . ) for originating this project,
this is the kind of thing that makes Z and X the best damn music sites on the net...

what a cool way to spend the holidays.. learning and watching the next great release come to fruition,
big thanks @ned944 too for suggesting this tutorial thread, even if I don't get past the "noob" production stage,
it's gonna be tons of fun to watch how this progresses, and hearing everyone's tracks

I actually suggested doing this in the ambient submission post, but ned conveniently made a whole post for people so it made sense to post the tutorial here! Hopefully other people can share their breakdowns too :P

alritey then.. props to you SyNtH m8...
I'll be giving myself an hour to watch your tutorial as well..that's a nice Christmas present in tself...
thanks again @ned944 and TITS for the assist then

I have seen some (former) bigshot here steal the glory on a new release before, from someone who was posting all the time
on that particular software, and it was pretty blatant, so all credit where it's due @SyNtH. :shalom:

lel to everyone who is confused:

Arctic started the idea on the ambient album,
he needed someone to manage the project cuz he didnt have time so I sed I'll help,
clayton and ned also wanted to help so we brought them in.

Synth made a tutorial on his track and ned just made a thread to post tutorials in to keep the main thread clean.

@RMorgan Great work, man. I really got into it.
Is there any way that you could add a little more to the left-hand side of the stereo image? It feels slightly underpopulated in comparison to the right-hand side.
