    I really have an issue with these tutorials that advocate this kind of standardized mixing and that assume so many different things. The video assumes you first of all have a good recording, a good recording room, a good vocalist, a good microphone, and a ton of other things.

    Also, if you are doing any kind of electronic music meant to be loud or super crisp then this approach will do absolutely nothing for you. These kinds of tutorials will make especially novice producers and mixers afraid of trying new things and experimenting. There's no rights and wrongs when it comes to mixing peeps, it's whatever sounds good and whatever works for the material you're working on.

    If you ever start wondering why your mix is not working, go back and review if you were purposely trying to be subtle in your mixing or if you wanted to try something but held back because some tutorial somewhere advised you not to boost an EQ that much.

    I am totally agree with you. I am nonprofessional and I like to watch this kind of videos, not as something frozen, but as someone's method. I think it's always interesting to see how other peoples do.

    That said, it's like cooking, there are those who follow conscientiously the book and others who use it as guideline or don't use it at all, trusting its own taste. Sure, better off being this one. Feelings free to experiment, be creative and learn from its own mistakes. I think it's the key.
    In fact, depends on person. It's a lot a matter of state of mind IMHO.
    At my humble level, I'm glad to see things like someone as experienced as you. All is not lost!:)
    Thanks!

    @fuad

    Your words are clear but... everyone is free to follow its own way. I had watched many Graham Cochrane's videos. Sometimes I agree, sometimes not (when him talks like my mom...). Anyway his videos are, in my opinion, a starting point. Even you, at the beginning, had followed someone else technique/suggestions/tutorial or whatever else... as a starting point. What really count is the way everyone of us will evolve following the chosen way. :drummer::chilling:

    I like how he says "I love EQs where I can not see a graph [...] sometimes I fool myself when I look at the curve" and some minutes later he sets some knob value to exactly -3dB because he "like to work in 3dB chunks" :bleh:
    Nevertheless a good tutorial, maybe a bit simple and too long for my opinion, but probably perfect for beginners or people unexperienced with the software/genre.:wink:
