I really like the idea!
To keep the financial risks low and to keep it simple in terms of logistics I'd vote against a physical release. A digital release has only advantages over the cd, imho.

If anyone is willing to help Arctic out things will be coool. I'm busy as scheize recently and also don't check up on here as much so can't really do teh manegements, but definately would submit a track...

It would be cool if the people who participated all used a few continous themes in their tunes, so in a continous mix them all together it would sound like one big evolution droney thing. What about some sort of group collab project where 2-3 people work togther and they focus on some form of idea that they all agree upon.

I want to contribute, but not sure fully because I have never tried ambient track before.

But, I like the idea. It is good for AS community.

This brings members together.

Such events are real sense of "community".

We are hungry humans for livelihood and togetherness. Most of us do not know each other personally but we know by their expressions here.

Such events brings many expressions converging into one direction towards one point.

I like the enthusiasm and positivity in couple of days in similar thread.

Moderators should bring such events time to time to make AS forum expand more and more.

I don't get why Ambient should be separated from the rest. More specific requirements to participate?

 

im so much inn.
in the past i never finnished any of my ambient pieces. Always to scared to put it out there
but if i can "hide" and be a part of something greater, then it wont be any issue.

im up for working with others aswell as doing my owne thing.

But lets set up some PLAYRULES.

and lets play and have fun :D


Working out a commen theme or 2 would also be awesome. And some "keywords" to let the mind wonder with a aim :P

 

This doesn't necessarily have to do with the community album, but more for those in this forum interested in working on something ambient, which was inspired by the earlier thread arctic made around ambient that came before audiosexed album thread...

Think of it as more of an exclusive interest rather than a general project... it's not really meant to seperate Ambient from the other genres, but just something some of us are interested in doing.

Honestly it doesn't even have to be an album, if we can even get a few members contributing we can just have a small EP that we can release here. It's a good way to experiment in a new genre and do something refreshing...

 

Whether about this thread or the one about audiosexed 2nd album. If someone could enlighten me on the subject.

I haven't vote yet and I don't know if I will participate(not sure to have the skills and the gear required), despite that I am quite interested. But I don't understand the process and what does that involve. All this are somewhat abstract for me. It's about creation, collaboration, providing old tracks sleeping from our HDD or it has yet to be define ? i.e. what are the selection criteria ? Who gather tracks ? How many time allowed ? What are the limits to set ?

Regarding the project administration help, what does it consist of ? I don't know if I have the abilities but I have some time for now.

Sorry for that bunch of questions, my knowledge about producing is poor, I have rarely finish what I've started as a bedroom procrastinatorducer and even less shared on the web. The more seriously thing I did was to create a little atmospheric metal band(I'm not a great instrumentalist too) with friends. It was awesome but it's over. Since, I do very few music.

However, even if I don't participate actively this time, I embrace the idea of this thread and I would be delighted to share and discuss about ideas, theme(s), artwork cover or anything about.

To answer your questions:

1) who did the whole mastering for the audiosex album? or maybe somebody else?

I like doing my own mastering, so if people need help with mastering I can be of assistance...

1) the theme

I think rather than have a theme we should just create anything and have a random mix of tracks.

3) max track length

Since this is ambient we could allow a maximum of 12 minutes but not more than that. I say 12 minutes cuz there
are some mad 12 min ambient tracks so that's a reasonable maximum length for an ambient track.

4) release on audioz or just here?

We can release it wherever, as long as we do it

5) who wants to collect the tracks?

If I end up doing the mastering I can collect the tracks...otherwise Arctic it should be you since you are the head...

6) what kind of genres we want to include?

We'll just make any type of ambient genre/sub genre...

7) recycle old tracks or go for new ones?

We should definately have a bunch of new tracks made... the album is meant to be a fresh excerise...

Also we should include at least some degree of quality control and include those who are genuinely interested, rather than random people trying to get non existent exposure...

The artwork should also be of good quality and have an atmospheric touch and feel.

We also need to provide a name for the album, but we should do this after we have a decent collection of tracks.

I think even 5-6 tracks are enough and if there is more even better. As I said it doesn't HAVE to be an album, we could just make
it an EP since this is a more exclusive project...

Deadline shouldn't be strict, but the moment we have a solid amount of tracks we should just release it...

 

This is a great idea i'd love to be part of this as ambient is my main genre.

 

For the theme:
Use some space/universe artist views pictures or key words for those who need it and work on what does that evokes.


Tracks length:
Agree with ( . )², between 4 and 12 minutes, 12 for max is a good compromise IMHO.
I also think recycling is not the spirit of this enterprise.


For tracks selection:
I think everybody should be free to participate(We are not thousand either), until a subscription end date.
This thread could be use to post all tracks and when all are posted, whether, everyone votes for his favorite one, or a jury (or both, one after the other, to make a first selection) could select the high quality/better sounding and best compositions pieces for the album.

Then, delete the tracks who go on the album and leave all unselected ones here, gathered on the thread first post. That way, everyone could listen and debate about them, in one place. (I am not totally convinced about this whole paragraph, but maybe it could help for something)


Some random ideas:
What do you think to impose some basic rules i.e.: like a root key and a drone pattern.
the idea is to start and ending each track with a common selected drone pattern in D for example, to bound all tracks in a set as a big uninterrupted piece (like SyNtH. suggested). Tracks root keys would be free but D scale relative, or not.

-Quantum Intercourses (or Coitus or Orgasm)
-AudioSex Stasis (love this one)

Can re-work this a little and make around 4-5 minutes for the album, if it is indeed to be an ambient one. Any good?
