  1. Sorry folks for not being active in my own post but have been having heavy family stuff as well as some continuing physical issues. I sincerely appreciate the energy and time spent answering my query and most probably will support this dev. Namaste and blessings to all.

Yes, if it fits your idea of a synth concept, and if you find the sounds you're looking for quickly enough.
The more clear your idea of the sound you're after is, the more likely you'll have to "patch it up" for yourself. Omnisphere 2 has more options than ever before to do that, but it's not necessarily the perfect solution or the holy grail of synthesis, and there are certainly various other synths that are better in some specific areas, both in terms of editability and sound.
Omnisphere as a hybrid of sampler and powerful synth is a great thing, but that's not what every musician needs.
What synths to use is a very personal choice imho.

  4. Well folks, we are almost at the end. After spending much time listening to people expouse the sheer wonderfulness of Spectrasonics2 plus listening and absorbing as much as humanly possible on the video waves, I actually bought the thing while in the Sarasota area at the local Guitar Center. Black Friday brought it down under 400 bills so I made the leap...almost. The salesman informed me that this version was to be installed via usb stick and I took him at his word. It was not until just a few minutes later when I caught up to my mother and brother at another store, and in my excitement, began pouring over what was written on the outside of the box, discovered that it was not indeed the version that the salesman said that it was but rather the CD version. It also stated that there was only 10 gigs of information provided and not the 12 that is proffered any and everywhere that I know of. I promptly turned around and got my moola back. I want to still possess it very badly but felt that I would never be truly satisfied unless it was a "pure" exchange. I might have to wait until I get back home to Switzerland and pay a little more, but I am willing to spend a tiny more in order to be a happy camper. More in the future to follow.

12 Gigs? Omnisphere 2 is supposed to be about 40.

I do think I'll end up buying this synth eventually. The dev seems like kind of an asshole with licensing and support policies (for instance, a license can only be resold once, and only with the approval of the developer. etc.) but it's a very hard product to beat.

BTW I love it. Endless options for wavetables, tons of filters, great granular synth engine, THE ORB! (awesome little modulation toy), plentiful and unique built in effects, multistage envelopes, etc etc etc.

In my opinion, the best synth out there. Followed closely by Serum and then Massive (okay not one of the best but my favorite).

PS - hey buddy. hope things are going alright

i bought it the day it was online. NO regrets, the best Synth out there, just watch ALL PluginGURU Videos abt Omnisphere.
Use the USB stick Installation! the DVDs suck , they somtimes are not readable, so it took me HOURS to install and find workarounds (like make an ISO of it and use DAEMONTOOLS).
I also bought Cubase 8... so abt 900 Euros (both) and i can do unlimited Music. And this will last some years.

  7. Hey Cav, thanks for the thoughts. I will PM you. I actually saw Omni2 at my local Basel House of Sound for much less, 385chf, which also includes tax. HOS is an anomaly as they literally have the best prices in Switzerland, Europe, the whole of the western hemisphere, Antarctica, Austrailia and anywhere else on the planet. Lucky me. I have saved approximately 50 bucks a month for the last 8 years and am going to hopefully spend wisely and buy gear enabling me to offer high quality recordings to experimental classical ensembles in the area as well as small acoustic groups to showcase their work and make the record of their dreams. For the venue recordings I will 90% be getting a Crane Song Flamingo, one of the greatest preamps to me, a Josephson E22s, a Beezneez Mahalia that is made in your neighborhood, and am supremely dreaming of a pair of Samer V37 ribbon mics for the venue recordings. Along side of an RME UFX (way under 2000chf) and the Warm Audio Tone Beast and W76 that I have, I think that I am good to go for years to come.

  8. Yea, thanks for the warning about the DVD installation. It just didn'the feel right and I am now doubly glad I gave it back. I am drooling for the time I finally have it in my hot little hands and also the time to spend learning it's secrets. Ahhh.

Peace, @superliquidsunshine. I hope all is well with you and the fam!

I'm curious. If you downloaded the ISO's from the sister site, you would have everything except a legit serial. Then, you wouldn't have to worry about the installation process. Granted, the installation process could be a chore if you haven't already successfully done it. I remember all of those comments...

But, I hope you get what are looking for. People who like it seem to love it. I'm still waiting on Komplete to go half off. I want to buy that before I get Omnisphere because I've used NI's instruments more. A few things came with Maschine, so it works for my workflow. That is what matters most. I'm sure you'll dive in and make Omnisphere the cornerstone that it can surely be.

I read that BS. What's up with that? If you happen to but it from someone, you can't sell it if it doesn't work out? Please...
I love Massive. It's easy to fit into so many different songs. And, Serum seems to appeal to me more than any of the others besides Omni. I may be in agreement with these as a top 3. I haven't tried them all, and there are a lot. But, learning how to use them is going to make the difference. I don't want to try all of the top 50 synths. I just wanna make great music~

I didn't read the whole Omnisphere fiasco because I didn't care about it until later when Cat schooled me on how good it was, but I'm guessing many of those people can't or don't read. I also remember hearing the DYNAMICS DVD1 that came out was faulty.

At any rate, sunshine, if that was your problem, you've skipped on a really good deal and I good forehead smacking is almost mandatory. Xyenz is right about the legit serial thing. I still have the DVDs saved on a hard drive because I don't ever want to deal with downloading them with my spotty internet connection again - not even from the Spectrasonics server. I could have made a mega account to upload the CDs and sent you the links. Hell, you could have downloaded them directly once you used the serial, I think.

@Xyenz Fyxion - Serum is great. When it comes to designing sounds from scratch, I still reach for Massive out of comfort, but I have to admit that Serum is superior to pretty much everything except Omnisphere.

So far, I am not a fan of Omnisphere. I just don't like the Library it comes with. It sounds too clean and "mainstream" to me. So far I couldn''t find any sound which was suited for my style of music. As far as Synthesis is concerned, I rather stick to Massive, Spire or Serum. But I will have a look at the Bill Burgess Tutorial. Maybe it's an eye-opener, although I doubt it.
