that all depends on what you want. you need to work out what you need before downloading more than you'll ever use.

I think only you are the one who knows what VST andf VSTi you are using. I'm not sure why you are asking us what plugins to download.

This is the perfect opportunity to slim shit down to what you actually use/need.

well basically all i need is a a nice delay and reverb, maybe some distortion. ummmm a general use filter for HP and LP sorta thing. an EQ. but at the same time i wouldn't mind trying out something new.

Been there (nowdays I have a solid backup). Start making music. And as soon as you feel the need to use a function you can't achieve with your daw's plugins, get the plug.

It happens many times that my HD crashed. So you lost your HD but you still have your brain and memory. You should figured out the plugs you used a lot. All other one you should forget. Most of the DAW they have good plugs as standard. Myself I use Ableton live and only this as plugs.
"www.ableton.com/en/live/feature-comparison/" On the website you will find the plugs. If you are looking a complete package they are two I suggest: Waves or MeldaProductions. They have more than you need.

May i say everyone in this scene has suffered the same thing as you in the past... i can recomend you to have an HDD dedicated to save your plugins installators, back up files, and whathever you have related to instalation softwares... i have it organized by groups, like
    1. PC Softwares: here i put all the common softwares i always install after formating my pc, like office, winrar and stuff, i got it organized by folders with the program name
    2. PC Games: every game i have, here its the installer or ISO
    3. Music Production: here i got ALL my music production related softwares, separated by sub groups in a couple of folders, en every folder have sub folders with the programs name. for example, i got these folders:
      1. Daws: here i put all the daws installers i use, organized by brand and names
      2. Magazines: if i found something interesting to read (music productioin related), ill put it here
      3. Samples: here i got my sample place, organized by brand and names
      4. VST: here i got all my effects installers, organized by brand and names
      5. VSTI: here i got all my instruments installers, also organized by brand and names
      6. Videos: every music production video i have downloaded, here its where belongs, again organized by brand folders, then by name
      7. Kontakt Libraries: this name speaks for himself xD
    4. Music: every cd i have been bought, ripped or downloaded, its saved here
    5. Movies: same as above, but for movies
and im showing you just the importants thing i remember i got right now... i got a complete different HDD dedicated to save this stuff, wich i also update constantly, and has nothing to do with my Operating Software HDD... also, its always a good idea to sincronize this with a server automatically, so the day your HDD die, you have a back up into the cloud... there its some chinese servers wich offers you a terabyte of space in the web, to easily save your documents, and updated atomatically with a sofware, have saying that, you just have to select the HDD (or the partition) you want to sincronize, so everytime you change something inside any of the folders of that HDD, it will be uploaded automatically by the software

also, if you just have 1 HDD, you can make a partition of it, and dedicate the space you want to this task, and save C: for the OS, so anyday you want to format your pc, or shit like that happens again, you have all your softwares safe at the other side of the partition, ready to re install it again...

i know a lot of fellas do the same thing, because the same amount of fellas in the past has been struggling with the exactly same problem ur suffering xD so dont worry... we all have learned this in the bad way

Anyway buddie, getting back to your former primaly question, i can recomend you to get some of my favorites plugins, but before putting a list i wanna give you and advice: LEARN WHAT YOU USE!!! if you got to ask what should you get, that means you dont know what the plugins do, so no matter how much plugins list everyone throw at you, you will ended up in the same spot... its always important to know WHAT you use, WHY you use it and HOW you use it...
if you are into EDM, and trance music (wich i love btw, so if you can show me something to hear, i will be more than proud to hear it) may i say this its the plugins list of "Must Have" in my personal taste and opinion
    1. VST List
      1. Waves: this suites gives me anything i need... i use almost every hardware emulation they have.
      2. Pluggin Alliance: I cant live without elysia, spl and BX pluggins
      3. Native Instruments Effects: this suite got good Hardware emulations, some of them made by softube, so, its a must have
      4. Izotope Ozone: im not fan of a mastering suite, unless you know how to use every plugin involved, but this plugin have been upgrated a lot, and sounds great
      5. Xfer Records LFO Tool: great for sidechaining fx, saving the time of the tracking kick, sidechaining compresors, o noise gates, and giving you even more tools to get even more complex fx
      6. Valhalla Plugins: the reverbs, OH THE REVERBS of valhalla!!! this plugins give you the hall sound needed for trance music... one of the greatest reverbs i have ever used
    2. VST Instruments List
      1. Synapse Audio Dune2: may i say its one of the most amazing synths i have ever used... it sounds fat, it handle A LOT of voices, and you can modified those voices up to 8 groups, giving you acces to complex sinthesis in the same unit, saving a lot of resources when you are layering synths... i can make super saws as fat as a Virus supersaw with this software...
      2. Xfer Records Serum: Wavetable based synth, with a lot of funtionalities too... also a must have
      3. U-he Synths: Hive and Diva are my favorites, but the others sound as great as them.
      4. Tone2 Saurus: another emulation from old school hardware, with a lot of power inside of it. u need vintage synth? try this one or Diva from u-he
      5. Native Instruments Synths ans samplers: Kontakt with pianos for the breakdown trancy, and the synts are interesting too for pads... this company make good instruments, have great synths
      6. Reveal Sounds Spire: Another great synth, with a lot of tweaks, and a bunch of presets around if you are not into sound synthesis
      7. Lennar Digital Sylenth1: kinda old right now, but still sounding like a pro... and also a lot of patches around if you are not into synthesis
PS: kinda long xD but worth every line i wrote... hope that helps you buddie, cheers

to this list i would add some step sequencers to do your arpeggios, specifically for trance, like Tantra, Kirnu Cream or the free
    T-force Trance Gate and BlueARP

@DjTorke - I've never lost a thing. I hate to say it, but if you're not backing things up, this will happen eventually. It is very predictable--and I lost sympathy for its victims about 10 years ago. At this point it is common knowledge.

I keep new downloads on a usb drive until I burn to high quality media. I also keep a couple of backup system images going.

Edit: Also, don't run system images or backups on a partition. If the hdd dies, that partition will be toast too. I ghost system images from one hdd to an entirely different hdd. Safer.

I completely agree with this. Re-install the bare minimum. literally a couple of each types of plugins/instruments and learn them inside out.

well, good for you, tx good u dont have to strglle in the past for this, but i think that you are one of a kind... and i disagree with the common knowledge, not because you know something, everyone should know it... so, i dont lost sympathy at all with people who doesnt know, and im always glad to help to those (like this guy) who are starting, or doesnt have a clue about PC, and backups...

i dont know what your talking about buddie, what do u mean with ghost image??? also, for safe, i got my backup also on a portable HDD and up to the cloud, so im not worried about if HDD dies, unless the server and the portable HDD die the same day, wich its kinda difficult

Yes, multiple copies can make hdd failure ruining your backups a statistical impossibility. This is what mirrored raid is all about. A ghost, or system image, is basically a copy of your entire drive. OS, programs, everything. It can be recovered quickly and easily. I would recommend everyone use them. I use Acronis True Image 2016. And in the year 2015, I think everyone does in fact know to backup their stuff if they want to keep it. I've seen about 100 of there threads in my time at this forum.

Make music with what you have right now. If you feel the need for a specific type of plugin, go get it. I've been managing to it this way while keeping it almost all freeware. No clutter, just the things I really use.

This is the best advice unless what you really want is to toy around with stuff and pretty GUI's.

I did a backup as soon as I read this title lol. I'm sure others have said this already, but please backup incessantly in the future. You can never have enough backups. I just ordered a THIRD hardrive yesterday night to keep an external in the car and away from the house in case of theft or accidents.
