hey good ppl!

so it's been a while i've been wondering how to get this "draggy" feel which twigs has on all over her synths

take figure 8 for example (synth starts at 1:52):

i assume it has a real slow lfo with some pitch modulations and glide on (?)

but whenever i try to replicate it i get like.. nothing close to it.

well heck idk, i'm hoping you guys have a better ear or knowledge for it.


here's another example:

the synth that starts right from the beginning has been killing me for so long, i've looked everywhere and tried everything just to find out how it's done and what the fuck is that synth sound made of..

i am not quite sure but i think its a treated sample. I heard this kind of thing somewhere else but can't remember where

 

To me it sounds like a static sample that is "glidingly" pitch shifting but in a "by hand" fashion instead of a perfectly ramped automation.

Just my 2 ears.. I mean, cents.

 

Stacked and unisoned saws (playing chords or fixed interval oscillators), with pitch modulation. The pitch modulation seems to be both noise LFO (drift, flutter, etc) and additional "manual" modulation, such as pitchbend.

The second one also has lowpass filter and reverb.

What do you think about the "sound" itself on second synth?

I can hear it's effected with reverb, has a lowpass filter on it, gliding/pitchbending.. but what about the sound? Those clearly aren't just saw or sine waves right?

 

Arca is her producer. And Arca is one hell of a producer in general.

 

Try pitch modulation (stepper or mseg) on 1 finger chords a la wavestation variety

 

Uvi falcon standalone thrown together in 5 minutes

 

Saws. You can go a long way with filtering (lowpass and highpass), some chorus and some reverb.

Also notice it is layered with a bass that has less harmonics.

ikr, but arca produced EP2 only. I'd say that's pretty much how twigs got her sound, she's been sticking with it since then.

Sounds really really close to what i'm looking for, wish i owned Falcon tho.
Could you walk me through the process, like how you made it? I'd appreciate it.

That synth sound like a sound on DUNE 2

 

Also to add that there is a library called PURE SINE which have this same sound. It is being played as chords on this one
