I've just downloaded Ableton Live 9 Suite v9.2.3 Mac OS X from Audioz.eu.

The Installation instructions are brief, telling me to mount the disk, add Live to the applications folder (no problems up until here) and then open the keyfile (authorise.auz), not sure how to do this as the download file only contained the .dmg, the readme and a patch.

After i've installed and added Live to my applications, when I open it it immediately crashes.

Has anyone done this before who can help? I'm not particularly computer savvy, or software savvy, or life savvy, it would appear.

..there should also be a patch file that you run, which will open up terminal, patch the app etc, (be sure you are offline and turn off automatic updating etc in the app prefs, and then block with firewall etc...), then you use the .auz file to open the app.... try and redownload if it didnt contain patch? I recently installed this, and the patch was there and worked just fine!

If you can't open the patch try opening it in text edit. Then copy and paste the text into terminal. That should work.

I'd had the same problem. I had tried to run the patch after I had opened Live. I uninstalled Live, then ran the patch again, and Live worked as "authorized." I also, as a precaution, reset permissions on Live, before opening it, by using BatChmod (or however it's spelled).

By the way, you can download Max for Live (Max 7) for free from Ableton. After installing it, you can have Live recognize it in Settings ("authorized" under Live), and you'll be able to use Max for Live instruments and effects.

Thanks for your help guys. I'm still having no luck. I managed to unzip the patch folder containing the authorize and the patch.command. After deleting Live from my applications and reinstalling it I've clicked on the patch.command and entered my admin password, and it verifies it - 'bla bla bla you are now authorised to use Ableton Live...', then I click the authorize.auz and Ableton attempts to open and then crashes again.

    Just a couple of things:

Can I turn off automatic updating on Live without being able to access Live without it crashing? I've blocked Live in my firewall settings and tried the installation offline and it still hasn't worked.

Ok am I right in saying you uninstalled Live, then reinstalled it without opening it, then ran the patch? I've downloaded BatChmod but I have no idea how to use it.

Sorry guys, total newb here, I just want to make some music.

I don't think you can access the preferences without opening live, so no, you can't turn off automatic updating, but as long as you followed the instructions without being online you should be fine... what osx are you on? I would try and remove all traces of Ableton from your system (using various methods, looking for hidden files etc.. I believe there is a full list of what Ableton installs on your system upon install, ...).. and then start over... I think I had to batchmod the patch itself (dragging it to the desktop before doing so) in order for it to run correctly... do you have older versions of Ableton on your system?

    I'm on Yosemite 10.10.5

I think the batchmod part is where i'm stumbling. I have no idea how to use it. Is it as simple as dragging the patch to my desktop then dragging it into batchmod? When I drag into batchmod what boxes am i checking/unchecking? Someone mentioned that I should check the box that says apply to enclosed folders and files but this is greyed out for me and I can't check it. I've never used batchmod before.
