The intel forums dedicated thread is exponentially useless and I have been searching fruitlessly for a solution to my problem

I have an H81M-ITX r2.0 mb from ASRock with the latest BIOS. When I install the latest HD4600 vga drivers from Intel...I get the black screen (no pointer). This happenz immediately after the Windows splash screen. (X64 Home Premium).

I have tried every solution presented + some...Most people found relieve from disabling/enabling the display adapter but this didn't work for me. And it isn't switching my display to a secondary display by default (windows cannot even detect my second display in the display settings)

I've tried ever BIOS config imaginable.

I've gotten frustrated to the point where I've d/l'd Win 8 because even if I cannot get the Intel driver to work on the 8 platform....its generic vga driver supports my displays native resolution. But Win 8 is going to black screen also after the desktop runs for 3-4 mins.

I'm desperate for another angle here. Anybody have a suggestion?

I presume that you have tried to start it in safe mode and un-insall your graphic drivers

 

Lol, yea..a hundred times. Every time I'd try to tweak the BIOS settings and reinstall I'd have to go back and uninstall in safe mode.

I'm guessing at this point a dedicated GPU is the only feasible option

 

Have you ever had it working correctly?

If yes, then:
Did it work previously with other drivers?
Was it working with the previous BIOS ?

 

No, this is a new build....never worked.

 

What CPU? did you use?
Can you tell me brand, model, stepping, etc? ....I think I know what's happening to you ;)

 

It may seem like a strange solution but on many occasions the only solution was to use an older driver version and making sure that windows doesn't automatically update it.

I also had a dual channel set of crucial ddr3 sodimm mem that I swapped out which didn't fix anything.

 

Lol yep tried that too...I tried every prior relative version of Intel's graphics driver I could find online.

 

Damn, I'd love to help you but I've never ever had this problem with Haswells and I assembled a good dozen of them at least! First time I hear this. So I presume the problem is neither the OS [W7x64], nor the CPU. Must be the mobo then. :/ I use Gigabyte mobos with Z97 chipsets and 2 PCI slots [for older RME audio cards] with Haswells. Sorry, I know this isn't very helpful. :/

I also disable "by default" lots of Intel VGA driver additional functionality btw. like additional services that are not needed for DAW work and the completely useless shitty tray app. Have you tried that? So only the pure VGA driver starts with Windows. Start with disabling the tray app and Intel autostart programs for VGA. Hi when i whas reading this i just had to tell you about what happend to me with a Asrock motherboard i had.I don't know if you know but these Asrock boards are from Asus and they are the cheaper boards from them out there.So what happend to me whas i bought myself a Asrock 970 extreme 3 amd quadcore and from the beginning i whas ussing it i got bleuscreens al over the place random.I tryed everything nothing helped so after like half a year i changed to another brand ssd from ocz to a newer ocz ssd then i though everthing whas ok then i sold it cheap to my moms.Then i build myself a monster pc quiet and everthing this time from Asus specs are displayed below.For my mom everthing went great for half a year then it started to act strange again hangin bleuscreening so i went and bezurk on trying to fix it for my poor mom.It just woulden't boot and gave me a can't find boot ini blabla so after switching the ssd sata to another input i whas running ok again.Then this happend couple times so i changed to another ssd from samsung it runned ok for 2 months then started over with the same shit.Everytime it happend it seems like the problem cycle time got shorter she had to swap sata ports almost everyday for it to boot properly..Now i bought her a Asus z97-k with a i5-4590 all the crap whas gone it felt like the motherboard had a ghost spirit in it and a mind of it's own.So after like 5 years of swtiching sata and trouble shooting it just seemed that Asrock is a shitty motherboard and would never ever again spend a cent on the brand.This is explained in short but you'l get the picture i swapped everything clean installs you name it.If you can swap to another board brand asus or msi and still have warranty just do it and save yourself the pain and frustration my friend lot's of luck bro.

installed mine new motherboard and i7-4970k with Intel HD 4600 without any issue 1 months ago. It will load by default even in Yosemite (not at full resolution) without any driver or kext. I'm using DVI.

 

Ok, at first I thought you had a problem with the processor, because this mobo's need a CPU powered with GPU, but seeing your report that's not the problem.

Let's test the "black screen" "world's TOP problem" number 2 ;): Take away all your RAM, let only slot 1 occupied and tell me something.

 

Have you really got sodimms in there ?

Have you tried it with just one stick of ram in either slot ?

It might just be a bad board, do you have an other one to test the ram and cpu in ?

 

Yea sodimms...its a thin-mini itx so it uses laptop mem...

I tried one stick, same thing....blackout

If I were you I would buy a cheap video card $ 20 to $ 30 and install it and be done with it. I have always hated on board video. The only thing I can say on bard video is good for, is stealing your system memory.

I have a I7 4970 k and would not even think about using the on board video. I have and older Nvidiai gts 8600 card installed. Works perfect.

 

Turns out it WAS the display settings. Once installed, the HD graphics driver set the default display as the second display (it does this even with one display connected).

For whatever reason, Win 7 would never detect the second display. I don't know if this is a limitation of the generic VGA driver. But when uninstalling the Intel HD driver back to the generic driver so I can actually see my desktop, the second display would never list in the display options.

I fixed it when I installed the Extreme Ice OS in Mostwests thread..As soon as I installed Extreme Ice and then the HD drivers, I was able to set my displays within the control panel and run them at their native resolutions....my prior Win 7 install was Home Premium and validated by Daz' WinLoader, however, I never updated it. So I can only assume the culprit was one of the (or lack thereof) updates.

 

Well, i'm glad that 7 Ice worked, the release was packed in the 2010-2011. Would you like you to share your experience about installation (and/or language pack)? Would you suggest it to anyone? Post it in the main thread, some users could benefit from your experience.
