I have had an epiphany in the form of an analogy: creating a good sounding audio track is like throwing darts. As long as there is nothing wrong with the dart, it's not the brand or style of the dart that will get it to the bulls eye, but the skill of the person throwing it. That being said, of all the posts here, the GEQ looks like the most intuitive (therefore powerful) tool to me. Unless there is something wrong with the way an EQ works or sounds, just get on with the work. Switch out "brands" of gear if the one you have has drawbacks for you, or if you A/B compare, and one sounds better than the other. What is the drawback with the one that is already in your DAW of choice? And if you are talking about a "live" job, hardware is still the best way to go, from my personal experience. I mix with a dbx DriveRack and the EQ in my PreSonus, but I would still rather have a nice rack mount. http://yamahacommercialaudiosystems.com/product_detail.php?prodID=1036

Don't you mean triple 20?

 

here inthe States we play Cricket and 01....The surface area of a double bull is the same surface area of a triple ring. You need a double one out to beat me.
