How do you add a 'human feel' when converting midi files

    Would you apply the 60% swing to one stem ( say drums ?) or the whole mix Remix?

    Mainly the drums...although i tend to make sure the first Kick in the pattern is on the grid so no matter how loose i make the rhythm there is one element holding it all altogether...

    but if the bass needed some movement or the sample chops etc id add it to them too...

    Listen to some J Dilla, imho he's probably the god of loose rhythms (in Hip Hop anyway)

    I have taken some (not all because I'm learning bit by bit) of the tips, from you guys and applied them to this latest attempt. Does it sound less mechanical than the last one?

    I work mainly in trance and aside from the bass lines, I like to record all other parts live until I nail it in all departments, dynamics, timing etc. even arp parts I prefer to record live as I have found the human interaction with arps can provide some cool results. I guess what I'm saying, I don't like to paint my notes in. For me, that is a human feel.
