The sound of the whole song is Amazing! The synths are Huge and the Reverb is Amazing.
    (RL Grime uses Reason)

1.The Sound quality is next level , Could this be because he mixed this in console?

2.The synths are sounding Huge and Has a tone to it (It's just a Saw and almost Dune or Spire could do it). But it sounds huge, What kind of synths could he have used? Any ideas? Analog? or is it because of the mixing?

3.The Drums are on point, Can anyone suggest me where i could get those drums samples? or could it be from addictive drums? (No mixing tips on drums)

Discuss anything about this song (Vsts,Sample,Mixing, etc)

    Thanks!

Sorry I can't answer your question...but I must say the song is excellent. Dubstep meets Trap. Very high energy and quite Fantastic! Illmind has that same "next level sound" you speak of. These two producers are very versatile producers.

I think I'm missing something. It sounds like any other song of that genre to me, just with a ton of reverbs and hardly any lows. I guess the song itself is ok, but there's absolutely nothing that jumps out as even close to anything revolutionary. Even with songs I'd never listen to (like the OP vid) I feel I'm savvy enough to appreciate a good production, but nothing stands out to me. Youtube's fault?

Next level what exactly? Just sounds like pop music as usual. The highs sound harsh and the lows are a little lacking too.

This kicks its ass from here to next week

First, I just love the expression "next level", as it says nothing really. It's all relative.

To me (and to a few others it seems) it just sounds like decent production, decent sound design, decent mixing and ok mastering (albeit brickwalled).

Well, to get a good perspective of what RL Grimes has done with this remix, it is a remix, is to listen to the original. Those reverbs and retarded compression are there in the original. Grimes has speeded up the original and made it sound like a tiny radio. The singer's voice is awful too. The distorted (over-modulated) effect on the vocal was done by Prince in the 80s/90s, remember?

    well

    1) EXPLAIN next level, console won't do much apart from pre-amp and eq reasons. so no.

    2) synth stacking, mixing & placement.

    3) no, maybe its from a sample pack, maybe its a custom drum rack. i don't know, i don't memorize specific snares and kicks etc.

Most of the popular music people loathe over and praise those with small talent.. they never realize how simplistic, easily thought of, repetitive, irritating, and lifeless it is from the production stage on through the mixing and mastering stage until they listen to 10 minutes of something like this and realize there is a level their favorite producers are not even close to being on.. let alone the next one.

I have been doing this sort of recording for 50 years and find this very easy.
I think the problem with modern mixing is making samples fit with live and hang as one.
I find this a lot harder. I like the sound of today done by the greats like Pensado, Serban, Phil Tam etc..
But attempts by a lot of the younger DJ's are hit and miss. Mostly miss.
Todays ITB technology is far greater than any studio I have worked in anywhere in the world.
Being able to set up a console with 15 great reverbs used to be a dream. EQs like the Sonnox are increadible. By setting the correct Q you can emulate any hardware EQ. Try it. Send pink noise to both the hardware (or plugin) and the sonnox looking at an anazlyzer and you can adjust the sonnox Q to sound exactly like the original.
And its sweeter. Then if you want some harmonics (console sound - distortion) add the Meldaproduction MMultiBandSaturator.
    Just my 2 cents.
More tips will cost you a case of Guiness.

I have just about every tool for crafting including the ones you mentioned. I use them with my ears and not my eyes so it would be more so detrimental for me to configure a plugin to precisely emulate a piece of hardware. There's no need to turn any knobs and fix a setting before sound is playing. What I shared above classifies as modern mixing as it was done in 2013. Listen to the separation, clarity, and high detail that is still present in the mix when a lot starts to go on just before the 5 minute mark. The instrumentation and responsiveness.. the positions in the mix.. the detailed nuances.. on youtube for that matter.. the overall proportion of the modern jazz mix above is on a superior level of craftsmanship than EDM from the initial concept to pre and post production.. every aspect of it. I can retrack what focusrite shared above better than it was tracked. I can also take the same stems from the track if available and guarantee it would sound better 15 minutes into my craft, and in a drastically higher category at the end of the day. It's because what I'm used to doing sounds better than that as a default standard. I don't care if it's EDM, Trap, Pop, or whatever.. if they are capable of sculpting the the environment of the arrangement I shared above to house their song in.. it would be twice as dynamic, twice as characteristic, and could be played twice as loud and not disturb the ears. That other stuff up there is the tone of a rough draft.

    nice topic
    im a sound creator
i never use root or sampling and put my stuff on it yeah im x and famous x creative !bullshit
i made my own drums, fuck i can create rap music on 6/8 or 5/5 or else whatever
    i hate music theory
and i have hand to EDM AND DUBSTEP AND TRAP AND INDIE maybe more
i dont know there are too many artist are using my stuff

    at the end
dubstep and trap are complex to each other so i call it TRDUBS
    maybe they will name it
    maybe not
i dont give fuck still im running fine creating and inspiring anything i have

    here is a tip
put some 808 long low kick with 2F drop and 2G drop
under first beat second kick put on of yamaha tom or kick
between second beat put some shake and classic snare swing or old school the drops randomly
now you have tweak trap sound
if u like it just up and down your tempo and use your imagination
but if you want more complex similar to dubstep
add some hard kick with digital hard clap
1F drop clap 3G# drop clap
    now its offbeat
but if you use the fuckin 4/4 or 3/3 not working cuase you cant
up and down meters and tempo
    use anything
    and you have new sound

    peace

    Hey DBMUZIK
I agree with what you say mostly. But as far as EQ goes there are tried a tested shapes used in vintage EQs that are musical. Try my Pultec emulation in Sonnox and tell me what you think. This has both versions of the Pultec in the one EQ. EQP1A and the Mid Eq.

Do not adjust the Q or the shape settings. Just the freq, the Level and the in out button.

How'd you go from Clockwork to joining ( if not pioneering) the trap music scene as the legendary RL GRIME?

Do you rather sample an 808, or synthesize one, and if so, what's your preferred method?

    What's your go-to DAW?

    What's your favorite VST?

    ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
RL grime started out as an outlet to try totally new music. its a project that has allowed me to work on anything i want. its amazing to be album to make an r&b record like "reminder" but also records that work well in a clu/festival setting and have it make sense.

regarding 808s: i do both. i try to take a new approach to 808's in every song

i use reason mostly, but rewire with ableton for audio stuff.

    i dont use any vst's

    wot?

He's saying that Reason doesn't use any plug-ins for synthesizing sounds. It has a really robust set of native devices that you can patch into each other easily. A lot of people do sound design and some sequencing in Reason, and then bounce clips into Ableton to be arranged into a full composition

As stated above he uses Reason rewired into Ableton Live. For 808 he uses samples and he also synthesizes them, and he tries to make every 808 sound unique.
