Wish it had more of a following, it looked like it had potential. Soundcloud is going to reign king for free music uploading/streaming for a while, it's been at the forefront for years. Gonna be a while I think before something better comes up that is able to push Soundcloud out of the way, even with the rough state it's in right now.

 

The only way to make it popular is to use it, then others will get curious and use it too. But anyway it's a place to park your music to put on other sites, and unlimited? Cool.

 

Yes, the 120 SC minutes are laughable. But anyway, they have to make some money at some point too.

 

I'm happy about any alternative to Soundcloud so I hope this does well.

 

Thanks for letting us/me know about this. Although Soundcloud got there first and thereby established itself in the public's mind, from my standpoint, alternatives are welcome. S/c doesn't permit much individuation and customization; the idea is that one's "stream" feeds into the numinous, anonymizing ocean of cloud-sound. On S/c, the music of anyone I might "follow" plays after a song of mine, and I don't have a S/c account for presenting anyone's music but my own. S/c also has grown to be "of interest" to major music corporations, who rightly worry about illegitimate posting of music, but use that as a pretext to gain control over S/c itself. The spam messages I get from alleged webcam girls and other spurious entities is also making me detest S/c. Hearthis might be the stream-hosting service I'd been wanting - and it has no limit on time, which is cool. And "free" is up to 10,000 plays - my music should be so popular!

 

Soundcloud is a monopoly that needs to be knocked down a few notches... I will definitely try this, thanks!!

 

I was so excited to try this and my bubble is completely burst. I started uploading a large group of 500 songs. I started getting 500 EMAILS after each song complete the upload.No way to stop that it seems. THEN try hand sorting 500 mp3's by hand. NO AUTO SORT?? I'm very sad, but it is unusable this way. Maybe he will fix that. I was so hopeful.

 

This looks really interesting, but in my opinion:
"unlimited uploads until you hit either 10k plays or 5k downloads"
is (in most cases) way worse than
"only the last 180minutes of your uploaded music gets displayed"

On the other hand if you are thinking about getting a premium/pro account the hearthis options look more interesting and are way cheaper. But exactly this is one of the main problems.
I think most people don't really plan on buying a premium/pro account the moment they decide for one website, so if you look at the choices as someone who thinks "I don't want to pay for premium" it's obvious to decide against hearthis.
The system is basically f'ing its free users because sooner or later they will be forced to buy premium or they can't really use their account anymore.

 

They just fixed the sort issue and the emails issue. Very impressed.

i migrated over to hearthis a few months ago.
its just an online hoster/player for me.
never really liked sc after the update.

hearthis.at isn't that bad but I dunno if i will join.
Its design could be made better, the Playlist window at the right side is very annoying,
same for the drop-down menus at the top! In general I don't like it so much when
too much elements move on a website, endless scrolling means endless p.i.t.a.
Since Soundcloud has been "refreshed" it has become buggy on my old FF browser!
Years ago it worked much better, but i don't use it anyway much.

 

I'm on there and I don't like it! If you have a free account you can only upload mp3-Files – nothing else. Also, your track won't get rendered instantly. There's a waiting period. And after like 24 Hours I got the first Newsletter begging me to go Premium. The Interface sucks as well. It's okay for side usage, but I won't switch over from SC
