Are you really buying pricey plugins?

    ...or just "demo-ing" them?

Seriously, no judgment here, now Pro C2 is announced and I was thinking, sure nice, but 149 + VAT, no way, really, than I remembered others that got even higher price tags, but are used by majority, so the questions stands, how many of you around here are buying that pricey plugins or if you are currently demoing them, how paying full retail right now feels for you?

149 units of whatever "western" currency will buy a lot of groceries. If a lot more consumers were "confident" about paying a measly $5 to download an album or two (or 10, out of 100) of mine, my response to the price of some software might not be, "Yeah, right." A lot of for-free plug-ins suffice heroically – and there are many for-free plug-ins available.

FabFilter let their customers buy upgrades at special price (Pro-Q2 upgrade 61% off). I'm thinking about it. :drummer::chilling:

So you bought something from them already or you are thinking about it because they let you upgrade with discount?

Not such expansive ones, for sure.
I can get a full DAW + plugins (FL Studio Signature) for 189.

To me, there is a BIG difference between plugins for pro/fast mixing/mastering AND "creative" effects/synths.

When you work as a pro recording/mixing/mastering, someone pay you to do a job. And you can buy hard/soft, deducting a part from your taxes as "tools". That's why most studios invest a lot of money in hardware...even if they don't really need this hardware now ;)

When you are a non-pro one, or even worse, a "simple" musician not fixing his price for his service, money you pay is not "invested". It is just money spend...and most of the time lost ;)
So on my side, i will not invest such money until i'm pretty sure to go full-time pro (musician or mixing eng). And it is not today...
Even if it is a good compressor, EQ...there are free/bundled alternatives.
Until you need to go fast and furious as a pro, to gain time...and so, money.

I only see those expansive plugs as "more". For ppl with big pockets.
Imagine now you "need" to spend the same amount on an EQ, a limiter, a reverb, a delay...Come on ! There are a LOT of things to buy before another EQ,comp,reverb... at 149 bucks !
I probably don't live with the same incomes than ppl buying this.

PS : as i side note, i (re)start tomorrow my job...but half-time only.I will not buy another plugin soon. I need to feed my wife and my two children before. But of course, i'm probably another "wannabe cheap a** pirate" :(

Anyways, really think some stuff got too much hype/exposure around them because plenty of folks just using them following all around hype, seeing some A class endorsed mixing engineer/artist/act or word of mouth from forums and etc, without worrying about paying ridiculous amount for them anytime soon.

What's the harm, well, that's spotlight taken from other affordable or even freebie offering that many can afford and that truly deserves exposure, word of mouth and suggestion from ones side.

when i was able to play for a long time with it, i will most likely end up buying it.
or i just mail the dev and see if he needs some soundbanks, or ask for a discount.

if the plugin has a dongle, i will bother investing time into it.

Why do you degrade yourself that way? :dunno:
If someone is a BIG one he IS big, no matter how the circumstances are, that's the secret of the "Stars"!
Easily adapting persons to unfavorable situations have mostly a harder life....till later they will see and
regret what they haven't done...for the sake of others. Well, growing a family is not easy at all.
But you might consider YOUR *dreams.

  16. I was at the FF site today and starred long and hard at that 149 and thought, that's just too steep a hill to climb right now. Besides, DC1A is great on my voice, Molot is da kine when dirt is needed on lots of stuff and then Koletnikov when dirt is not.

Adobe CC--in the cloud, baby. Love it. Mostly I use what's in the DAW (Audition). Since I have PreSonus AudioBox, I also have Studio One. Plenty of synths, and drum programming, and MIDI control there if I need them. About the only thing "cracked" in my system now is me and maybe a Sausage Fattener. Everything runs better, automatic back ups and updates, and I can access my work anywhere there is a computer. When my finances were a little tighter, I did whatever I had to, so, I'm no saint. But it's nice to be all legit. (Sorry, Saint, if you're around.)

Saint, Catalyst and most ppl here totally understand the "all legit" spirit ;)
Especially if you really want to sell your work, being endorsed, make tutorials on Youtube and more.
And of course, peace of mind :D

@Kookaboo : thanks for your kind words ;) I don't degrade myself, it was just a joke about all those ppl trying to convince me to buy a 149 bucks compressor or Hive at the same price :D
I use less and less hyped plugs. And probably not at all when i will go full legit.
I still think i will make my way through musical world...by one mean or another ;)

I got some money for Christmas/Birthday and bought Omnisphere (and free upgrade to 2.0) way more stable than warez ver.
There are others I want but the libraries are outragiously expensive. Unless I win the lottery or someone leaves me a lot of money.
(better chance with the former than the latter).

How you feel right now about spending money on bread&butter subtractive synth, like Sylenth, Hive, Spire and that likes?

And do you really feel you need any of them along Omnisphere?
