Hey Everyone, hope you're having a good week!

I did use the search feature and couldn't find a topic.. but I am new so don't kill me if I missed it :)

I'm looking to downsize my downloaded samples significantly, and I'm looking for a way to preview audio in the explorer window (Windows 7 x64 Ultimate) so I can quickly move things between another explorer window. I *CAN* open the sample in a seperate program like Winamp or (shudders) Windows Media Player but I wasn't sure if any of you clever people have come across something that integrates into windows explorer, or even contains it's own easy to use file management.

Any advice or tips would be fantastic.

    Pete :)

P.S. I have enabled the "Preview" window in Windows Explorer but it doesn't let me click play for any wavs or... well, much really!

Is not quite, what you looking for, but practically do the same thing, is windows browser integrated in player.

    http://resonic.at/

Player has own explorer window, so you explore(edit) audio files through player browser.

Or basically the same thing http://mpesch3.de1.cc/1by1.html

Resonic is awesome (even if it's in beta state)!

I've been using 1by1 for that for ages. It's also a really nice and lightweight music player for all the different codecs [it uses BASS library to play them].

    hey, Pete, Audio Lovers,

xmplay, by un4seen development, is also very lightweight, am unable to recall, sorry, about its explorer integration level or functions, though, because have never used it in that manner.

has wide plug-in support, worth to check those for added functionality. *yes*

it has even saved one important project where couple of files have had missing header data (no other program was able to do anything with these). *yes*

    all the best...

Just use VLC, it will play just about anything you throw at it.

    It is free

It lets you move the samples.

Except it doesn't play transients of samples, as it has a slow fade-in/attack. Very annoying. Playing one-shots is just absurd.

    Agree.

Something like OSX built-in player (when pressing "space"). That will be awesome. - Actually the only one thing i'm missing after switching to Windows.

Looks and feels pretty awesome. I think it needs RMS meter.

Thanks everyone for all the replies, really useful stuff!

    - I've been using this for a few minutes it seems to be really, really good! Thanks man!

If I don't get on with resonic, this will be my next port of call, thanks for the recommendation :)

Yeah man, even Winamp sometimes skips over the transients... Sorting samples into folder isn't exactly a fun job either so, you want it done quickly and right the first time! Love VLC normally though.

Yeah this was EXACTLY what I'm looking for, allegedly win 7 comes with one in the preview pane, but my preview pane stares blankly at me when I try!

Thanks again guys, massive help :)
