Has anyone found a way to insert silence within an audio part without cutting the stuff (in order to eliminate crackles, for example).

The predefined function "Insert Silence" in S1 cuts out the selected part and adds the parts (before / after) automatically together. For me, it is rather pointless in the context of musical material.

    S1 remains a bit puzzling ...

Use Automation.Select the part of the Audio Region that you want to silence and cut the volume level down to zero then use fade in and fade out to take care of any glitches in the audio file.Very simple in Logic and Ableton and I assume most other DAW's.Hope this helps wayne3.

Cutting won't do it if you want to heal crackles. Most of the time your ears will notice the small gap.
Either use tools like iZotope RX or, if you really want to do it manually, take any version of Audition (v1.5 or above), open the wave file and select the portion around the click (selection should be wider than the click itself, play with it)
Use Effects ==> Noise Reduction ==> Click/Pop Eliminator ==> Fill Single Click Now.

It works quite well, and there are loads of parameters to fine-tune.
The idea behind the algorithm is to remove the click/crackle while keeping the original waveform intact, that's why you have to select an area that's wider than the click itself.

    Good luck.

If you want elevated declick/pop, iZotope RX is your friend---> spectral repair. *yes*

Lol! All wave editors and DAWs can do it (waveform pen tool, gain/volume tool, insert silence option, normalize tool, etc etc).

@Baxter: Ok, some answers are no answers.

@all: Sorry, but my question was not how to eliminate clicks etc.

I also know that this feature exists i.e. in Cubase. Yes, I look for this http://media.soundonsound.com/sos/sep06/images/cubase4_l.jpg
but exclusively for STUDIO ONE (not Ableton, not Cubase, not Logic etc.). Therefore I posted this question in the Forum 'DAW => Studio One' ...

I am also aware that there are other paths to the goal depending on personal workflow. For me the question of whether this (very common + simple) function exists within Studio One remains.

    Thanks for your patience.

I don't know what you mean.

Don't you have a Studio One manual? If you do, then RTFM.

Common + simple answer is Yes it exists but because its badly implemented you have to do it manually. (can't comment about v3 tho)

You can strip silence only. There's no "insert silence" function. You can do it with automation and/or slicing audio track.

    thanks to all who replied.

actually this feature does realy not exist in S1. the only way seems to cut the stuff or to use the automation.

'Strip Silence' in S1 automatically searches for silence and adds (visually) breaks. that can certainly be very useful. but the result is a puzzle of events, I wanted to avoid exactly this ...

so I have to say that's a bit of a bad joke for a DAW in 2015.

    wonderful weekend for all!
