Hi all, just wanted to start a discussion about the sound design in the new Mad MAx movie.
I just saw it and was blown away by some of the synthesized sound in particular.

I thought they used music extremely well to tell the story and created tension and release in what would otherwise be a single paced film. i.e. balls out action start to finish. Which is visually amazing but could have been really tiresom. The Sound crew really helped George Miller flirt with that line without being over the top.

IMO one of the best sounding films I can recall.
Right up there with LOTR trillogy and happy feet (yes happy feet. it really does sound awesome!)

anyway, I'd love to hear other opinions and any sound design tips if you have any.
    cheers, Vince

Yeah it really was made for mad max fans. To me the Mad Max world is every bit as defined and intricate as middle earth. Right from the weaponry to the language and of course the landscape. Yeah the story was a bit weak but they always were more about being beautiful pictures than substantial plots.

My main criticism was in the casting of the leads. Max is an aussie. plain and simple, the brit-yank-aussie acccent was a bit on the nose. Sam Worthington would have been a better choice IMO. And as much as I loved Charlize manhandling the prime mover, maybe Alycia Debnam-Carey could have pulled it off.

thanks Daniel for the youtube link

That guitar/drum truck was inspired. All the vehicle design was inspired. I would love to have been on the crew that built the vehicles.

    :dunno:

Could not listen to more than two tracks from the soundtrack. Good sounds, good production. Boring music... (Although the theme in the video is quite nice)

    @ Gramofon

Personal taste will always vary regardless, but in film scoring personal taste is the last thing the director is concerned about.

If you know what i mean.

    Cheers

i found the soundtrack quite good, downloaded the soundtrack last night after getting watching all 6 videos. seriously i really loved the guitar part, awsome what he does with his tools.

for that most of the mainstream pop music is boring, if you know what i mean.
