Here's the thing. Obviousness aside (Hey, it's SSL, right?), one more EQ might be overkill, but you can never say, "I have too many reverbs in my toolbag." So I'd like to know if anyone has the X-Verb and can share some insight. It sounds like a no brainer for 99 bucks.

Is it worth it? Valhalla is the king for half the price without any discounts and arguably the slickest look.

    Any thoughts?

    Peace to you all.

I heard X-Verb in one shootout and as I recall it sounded really lush, heard nothing but great things about it, but than again, that was few years ago, some new stuff appeared and can't say anything really, wish I knew more about it

What reverbs you own by now?

    Damn !
The X-Stuff by SSL are not really the deal from what I've tried …
The only one which can be a real interest, is the X-Saturator, which have a really nice sound/flavor, and easily tweakable .

It's a pity that there is no sales on EQ Native, or even the Bus Comp, which are sounding f*** great .

    Cheers

Thanks for the input. I mostly use UA's RS-1 and DM-1 from their channel strip, RealVerb Pro, and VirtualSoundStage mostly. I also use A.I.R.'s plugs from Pro Tools as well as the stock D-Verb from Pro Tools (one of the best, imho). As you may be guessing, I'm already chained to iLok2.

Anyway, from what I read, it may be a time to pass it up. Anyway, I'm yet to buy my Valhalla reverb. Is it AAX?

Until you use up your UAD DSP card, which can be fast. Frankly, computer RAM and a fast chipset for a computer is cheaper than UAD cards.

  12. M3RCURYsoto, I am not too keen on X-Verb as I never was able to get the sound to my liking. There are other verbs that do the dense reverb thing a bit better to my ears, namely the Lexicon stuff and of course you cannot ever go wrong with Vintage Verb. On the other hand, X-EQ is extraordinary. It is so very musical and treats your low end so warmly and smoothly that it sometimes makes me cry at the shear beauty of its magical qualities. When people express qualities of EQ gear as very musical, they define the very essence of X-EQ. A few years ago I was trying to mix an orchestra piece that had a sine based bass line that I just couldn't make fit into the arrangement to compliment the woodwinds that the piece employed. When I slapped the X-EQ onto the track something incredible happened and I think I said, "Holy shit, fuckin' A!".

I know, you appreciate great artwork in GUIs, but we gotta admit it is straight to the point with no nonsense at all. Regarding having as many reverbs as possible, I guess now my money might be on the X-EQ rather than on the verb. Investing on the the poor-looking Valhalla will be a wiser move, don't you think?

Valhalla is a great stock verb replacement but for a verb that makes me go WOW I like Breverb 2.

All depends if u can live with looking at that UI constantly i guess.. me.. i like to immerse myself in good plugs with good UI's... Ill make Breverb or others sound just as good as Valhalla.. but look great too.

Its just not THAT much better for me to use it. (in the mix)

I don't know man. I usually have three reverbs for depth staging in the sends, and once I'm done adjusting them I never see them again.
Sound and usability beats design for me, and as far as they look better like Bitheadz Retro AS-1, I'm good.
