The problem there is that REX files by their very nature usually need 'adult supervision' to make sure the hitpoints are accurate and/or are the accents you wish to focus on in that particular loop . . I sure as fuck wouldn't be batch processing REX files even if I could simply because I wouldn't be able to trust the results I'd achieve from using those REX files in a project . . . know what I mean? *no* Also, you really need to set time signature and bar length on a 'per loop' basis or there's no point as I see it . . .

Of course I may be in the minority . . as far as I'm concerned it's better to have 100 awesome hand-crafted REX loops than 1000 shite ones

Recycle is a pain indeed because it only takes one wav at the time - but it works awsome!

Since I'm working with Ableton Live I go the other way around - converting Rex to Wav, because Live cannot handle Rex properly (I guess due to restrictions from those Propellerhead people).

That's why I've stopped further development of my little utility.
Pre-setting Recycle's sensitivity slider and batch-converting hundreds of WAV's is as far as you'll get ...
Only to finally end up with hundreds of unusable REX files.

Actually, the fine thing with REX files (just like with Apple Loops or Acid WAV) is the embedded slice (or "groove" or "hit point" information making it easier to change the file's playback speed or even its groove or rearrange its slices.
This can only work if the slice points are set very precisely, and that's where Recycle leaves you in the dark, even after over 10 years of development.
Propellerheads really haven't done much to ease this process, and instead of adding highly useful features each update of ReCycle seems to have *less* features (apart from some tiny refinements and compatibility updates).
Recycle once was capable of communicating with a large number of hardware samplers, including fast sample transfer of slices over MIDI and SCSI, and now in 2012 it still doesn't even have a sophisticated slicing toolset on-board, instead more and more export formats have just been "thrown away".
Looks like an experiment called "How far can we go and make people still buy ReCycle".

Since REX files, like Acid WAV or Apple Loops, have the slice information embedded in the file, I could design my own slicing toolset, but hey, am I Propellerheads and am I getting the money or what? :bleh:

There's hardly anything Ableton Live couldn't do today, and the workflow is much more streamlined. You could do all inside Ableton. Or Reaper (Using Grid, Snap, Slice, and Elastiqe2). Or Studio One (Audio Bend). Or Logic. Or ...

As for converting hundreds of files:
Why not *first* select the few loops you really wanna work with, and *then* do the hand work?

    I totally agree!
and there are loop producer that obviously give a shit on transient precision or correctness... that's blöd!

It exists a wav2rex converter at www.myreason.de.ms, you should try it out. It converts wave to rx2 files, for sure not precise as by hand, but it's working.
